If I had a criterion, it would be the overall creativity of the piece. How much it stretches the genre and introduces an element of fun. Dawn of the Dead does that well. So does Horror Express...seems like not a lot of people have seen this one, and it's got its flaws, but has a great sense of fun for a horror film.

biggest flaw is all of the shitty public domain releases it gets.
be nice if - since this is so highly reguarded - that someone would do it justice with a proper cleaned up release.

But seriously, Dante, you should check it out. And it's definately worth a blind-buy, if that's the only way to get it. I suggest the 'Ultimate Edition', which is under $30 now at Amazon.com
Thank you man!I'm all about getting the ultamite edition's of everything.:D

Night of the Living Dead

Bleak beyond bleak, loaded with social commentary, beautifully shot, truly scary, invented the modern zombie genre and a true work of art to boot - screened several times at MoMA.

Agreed, this is the first movie that scared me. It's crazy because the first time I seen it was on Easter at my aunt's house. I didn't get to see the ending because it was time for dinner, I was pissed so I asked for it the following Christmas. That was one of the best gifts ever!

There is a Euroshock edition of Horror Express that is widescreen with isolated musical track as an audio option. I think it looks pretty good...

As far as NOTLD, it's nice to see that so many people have warm fuzzy feelings for the greatest of the ghoul movies, and it is nice to know that people can enjoy their Zombies on Easter. I personally think a nice zombie movie can make a holiday.
