SPOILER: As you might recall, towards the end, Sarah hacks Juno's leg, leaving her to die. Now I don't care what she did, that's a bitch thing to do. So when she turns around and sees Juno (obviously a mirage, but bloddied up and still living), it's the start of a life-long guilty conscience. After her daughter died, her life was on her conscience, and she was always hallucinating, seeing her and hearing her. Erego, Sarah murdered a human being, and now she'll suffer the guilt. :END SPOILER Anyway, I thought the movie was brilliant. 9.5/10 Best horror since The Blair Witch Project.

*** still some spoilers *** still don't find it in keeping with the character, as throughout the movie, she keeps seeing her daughter, keeps hearing her laugh and is haunted by her. she's obviously losing it. i find the original ending way better because her grip on reality finally snaps, and she gets to be with her daughter, in a certain way. in the end you don't really care what she did to juno. it's the fact that she reunites with her daughter in her head that is a more interesting concept. the american ending just makes it about her getting her revenge, while the original makes it a bit more profound than that. that's just my take on it. but agreed, one of the best i've seen in a while.

Violent, gory, and the best damn horror movie I have seen in a looooog time.
A film that truly builds up the tension and suspense. Great performances and some cool looking monsters. No stupid jokes, no sterotype bimbos, just good solid acting combined with simple but effective FX. This one will be a classic some day. |

*Minor Spoiler* My favorite part of the movie is when Sarah first sees the thing. It's not a jump moment or anything, it's just so eery, and the buildup was so perfect. It was a genuinely frightening moment, and I haven't seen one of those since The Blair Witch Project.

every time i see a movie that i really like i go on imdb to read the bad reviews, just to see what people could possibly not like about the movie. i did this after seeing the descent and i say w/ out any doubt that those people do not know what they are talking about. this movie is not grounding breaking and doesn't use any new scare tactics. its the way marshall does use those age-old horror formulas that makes this a great film. some of the dissent (pun intended) i read on imdb is just... wrong. what they say sucked about the film just isn't right: the acting, the lighting, scare tactics, camera work, DIRECTION, etc. apathetic morons, go watch the godfather again and take an enema! :p

Has anyone seen this film? Totally a waste... the "Cave" was better than this one...and now, "The Descent" is reputed to top "The Cave""?
"The Cavern" is too dark, visually. Obviously the director's intent, but most of the time, I could not tell what I was watching on DVD... too much camera movement, too much dark, almost pitch black visuals! When I wish to watch a film...the operative word is..."watch"! This film wasted too much time in repetitious tunnels and never showed any visually stimulating 'cavern' vistas. The ending...don't ask! It was not what I expected... totally disappointing... and left me with one impression: sell my copy of the DVD and get it out of my film library as fast as possible! They could have left this one buried in some remote dark crawlspace somewhere. Very disappointing! |
