Why do you watch horror movies?

was always into horror from a young age, grew up with brothers in the 70s who all liked horror, in particular the Hammer Horror style. I've beens stuck liking the genre ever since...this is why I watch horror, but what has prgressed further since my early days of watching horror is how explicit the genre has become, this is another main reason why I watch them. I like the gore and creepy stuff, and if horror these days was restricted as to what could be shown, then I probably wouldnt watch half as much as i do now.

When did you start watching horror movies?

see above answer.... at a pretty young age, maybe 5 or 6, mostly b&w horror that was classed as family viewing. It then progressed to more graphic stuff in my early teens... then onto more gore etc.

How do you feel when you watch a horror movie?

duno about this one really, guess it's what sort of horror it is. If I find the film not too good, then my mind starts to wander and I dont enjoy the viewing. If on the other hand it's a well produced film then I'm completely engrosed in it.... I find a good soundtrack to a horror adds to the experience, such as Goblins sound tracks, and the film feels much more intense.... Tenebrae is one to think of here.

What is your favorite horror movie?

The Fog, closely followed by The Thing.... yes I am a Carpenter fan ;)

its funny that you said that .. i was actually thinking that having absolutely no sense of humor shows a definite lack of balance.
Lack of balance is instability.
So essentially that post did more damage in the very direction he didnt want it to go than the joke posts before it.

i'm also confused as to this collective 'we' as in horror fans ..
I dont feel dumped on for liking horror ?
as a matter of fact i didnt think it was so cultish.
Are we labelled by the fact that we watch horror movies ? i'm sure I'm not.

not to mention the fact that i couldnt give a shit about what anyone thinks - strength of character will have that side effect.

Judging from the little admonishment metted out to AMK for actually endorsing such irrisponsible behaviour i thought it was really a premeditated chance just to tell the mods once again that they were shirking their holy duties.

that depends on the nature of the weirdness ...

1. preferred drug; natural born movie addict, i just love horror. why watch some bland film when you can spend your time looking for the most fucked up shit that you have ever seen and test your limits.
2. been watching since my eyes were fully developed. my brothers and sisters always brought this stuff into the house and i just took to it from an early age.
3. why don't you tell us what you feel? horror isn't a narcotic; although some would say watching simulated murder happens to get some people's rocks off. one might say that murder is the most intimate of crimes since it is often considered very sexual for the agressor. Is this what you were trying to get at?

2. Started when I was 4 and watched Magic about a ventriliquist dummy that comes to life. It may not be horror, but it was scary when I was 4.

I saw that film at the theatre .. great movie..
it qualifies as horror...

Why do you watch horror movies?
I enjoy the irony and creativity involved in a good horror flick. Also, fear is a rare emotion for me to feel, and i get a thrill out of experiencing it.

When did you start watching horror movies?
I saw Alien when i was 5. I pretty much avoided them from then until 12ish

How do you feel when you watch a horror movie?
A good one: Excited and entertained. makes me want to write.
A bad one: Bored, angry. Makes me want to write. A better one.

What is your favorite horror movie?
Hmmmm.. There are a few, all for different reasons.
