Running Scared (2006). The initial feel of this flick was that of a foreboding sense that it might be nothing more than a mundane shoot-em-up whose greatest administration would be to steal a couple of hours of my life. But each turn of its twisted plot's screws served to create an action flick whose style can fairly be compared to Johnnie To. Reparations are even made to its rare predictability through its efforts to animate a delightful feast for the eyes in nigh every action scene. And plot holes be damned, this was simply too much fun to be concerned with such contrived mischief making. Paul Walker decimates his pretty boy aura through the frantic role that destiny has gifted him. That he is barely keeping himself together with mounting desperation believably leaks out; here is a character we want to believe and root for. Vera Farmiga is stunningly fabulous. Her scene with the creepy family is one of memorably breathtaking puissance. Detractors have complained that every editing trick known to mortal man was employed here, and I say yes but to great effect. Wayne Kramer has created a stylistic caricature of fairy tale violence that convincingly and wholly entertains its audience. What more could we want?

I think it's a pretty much safe assumption by now - animated films look the best on Blu-Ray. The picture quality becomes stunning, complimented by the awesome Dolby sound you ll ever get to hear.

About the film, its a real blast. Mixing clever parodies of almost all the major films in the sci-fi genre and cunningly creating a concoction which is both immensely delicious and a homage/treat to all the films of yore, fans across the sci-fi and animation genres should love this to death.

In a nutshell, it's this - think about parodies of the 50 Foot Woman, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Blob, the Fly & Godzilla taking on an evil (and half-goofy) Alien ruler (himself a four-eyed octopus!) who steamrolls in through sequences taken out from the beginning of MIB II and Fantastic Four 2.

Intrigued yet? I would be.

Go watch it. On stunning 1080 HD Blu-Ray.

Both are excellent yet disturbing films. It saddens me that still today neo nazi assholes spew thier hatred. I highly recommend both movies. Also, Russell Crowe puts on an amazing performance in Romper Stomper.

Flesh for Frankenstein (1973)

Pretty hilarious at sometimes but overall a superb & daring macabre take on Frankenstein, with plenty of blood, guts and grotesque humor.

Blood for Dracula (1974)

I very much liked Udo Kier's wonderful performance in F4F but I think he was even more excellent in the role of Count Dracula here. The films I have seen of his so far this is his finest in my account! After Lugosi & Chris Lee, I like to give him the 3rd spot for best Dracula in movies. Great story, great cast (surprised & glad to see Polanski in a small role) and a fantastic movie...Loved it.

It has been a while, I have to occassionally take time off to think up new and interesting things to say! Also the fairly recent discovery of playing Gears of War 2 horde on Xbox live has eaten into my free time somewhat.


Wolfman (2010)

Disappointing, it looked good and was very atmospheric but I didnt rate the performances highly and the storyline was weak. The transformation sequences were more of a Van Helsing standard than American werewolf in London (just in case you're unsure, thats a bad thing ;) ) and the London 'attack' was ripped out of Werewolf in London, this time it was a horse drawn bus in stead of a red double decker.

Glad Ive seen it, but I wont watch it again.

In a Lonely Place (1950). Film noir that didn't read rules, this wonderful classic is as dark as they come without ever showing anything more than a fist fight or two. Instead, it's black nature is born from a manifest destiny stained by the resolute nature of doomed love, of characters we want to root for but inevitably let us down. Humphrey Bogart churns out the role of his life, and that is saying something. His character is tough to nail down, a volatile and likable character that exudes a mystifying aura that something just ain't right. But what exactly "ain't right" just does not compute. Add to this Gloria Grahame's "Laurel", a knockout with a past and a presence that competes with the dame in Double Indemnity, her infectious sensuality eliciting a competing sense of attraction and trepidation. She simply seems to good to be true. The remainder of the cast is just as impressive, standouts all of them but left in the penumbra our our lead characters. The story, direction, and camera work all come together smoothly to fabricate one of the all-time classic greats, a movie that should be seen time and again. With an unsolved homicide lurking in the background, this story gets twisted up between the damnable bullseye of one of Cupid's naughty arrows and a suspicion that is midwifed by an overzealous police captain. The result comes to a dramatically furious denouement laced with dialog whose clairvoyance might have served to sculpt such a magically dreary ending.

I couldn't agree more. I went to go see that movie with my now, ex-girlfriend on November, 22nd, and I thought it tried copying Cloverfield's effects, somewhat. Also! I didn't enjoy the whole alien thing. Like I like aliens, but those aliens were awful in a sense of speaking, personal opinion that is. Anyways, in conclusion I'd rather see aliens storming the city on foot killing all humans within reach, this was alright, too.

The Terminator (1984)
one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time. I wouldn't want to run into the T-800 in a dark and secluded alleyway. :P Bravo.

The Abandoned (2006): I was quite torn on this one. On one hand I found the atmosphere to be great. It started off very creepy and I thought I was in for some good scares. But the plot just got a bit too vague, a bit too mysterious for my liking. Some elements worked really well, while others just didn't seem to fit. I think that after Genesis and especially Aftermath I was just expecting a bit more out of Cerdà.

SHUTTER ISLAND:

I honestly wasnt that impressed. The atmosphere was ok and camera work was good but was easy to predict. In fact it has almost the exact same story line as another movie. Dont wanna say the name of the movie cause itll give away the entire plot of Shutter Island. If youve seen both movies you know what I mean. Good acting. Great score. Bad storyline.
