I beg to differ. It was bad, real bad, but D&D did not have a single redeaming feature. Not being from M Night Shymalan is its only saving grace.
The village at least had some moments that would have stayed a little spooky had the movie ended differently.

I think that has a huge impact on whether its just a bad movie or a piece of shit:
expectations. I love D&D the game, and have for over half my life. The game has so much potential, and their are some very talented writers making novels and such for it, then they hire some no talent retard hack to come in and write AND direct the movie, and he missed EVERYTHING. Its like they got a copy of what Peter Jackson was doing with Lord of the Rings and said "We arent going to do ANy of this.) the Dragons sucked. the only halfway decent monster in the whole thing was the Beholder, and that had 2 seconds in the movie and was dumber than a bag of wet dog shit. For the record, in the game, they are capable of decimating large groups of people with very little effort. They can disintegrate things for fucks sake..... The dwarf was tall.... The "Wizard".. Well, they couldnt make up their mind if she was an apprentice or a master wizard...

expectations does mean everything .. but i wasnt basing my expectations on the source material .. juts the competence of the director ..
if you didnt know shit about D & D 1/2 of what you saw wouldnt have bothered you ... this movie hit you on a personal level different from most peoples expectations from a movie.. if a test audience went to both movies - being told one is a fantasy and one is a horror .. i'll bet the village will take a huge beating over D & D |

Most likely. Many "cool" people consider themselves horror fans, while fantasy movies are pretty much in the realm of nerds.

hell no - just the RPGers :) i like fantasy films but they are the most neglected.. it's really hard to find one thats well written enough to maintain the dignity of the cast. Conan is one of the best ... |

I always thought the conan movies were a little brainless, but they are fun, which is basically the point for fantasy films.
I miss the old ones like Krull and Dragonslayer. No one seems to have any real passion for them (except for PJ, that is) Film companies seem more interested in teeny bopper movies, cheap-ass horror flicks (cheap as in poorly written and executed), the occasional oscar-bound drama, and retarded action movies starring colin ferral Ooops.. i almost forgot, an endless stream of remakes.

thats the key to fantasy - as they always use that language and the no name ex-TV actors they normally cast in these films aren't skillful enough to make them work. fantasy films are like the post apocalypse films that way - bad actors, cheap ass locations (outside in a desert or rocky terrain) nominal effects ..and atrocious dialogue. the good ones stand out miles above the rest - and if you take a good look at them it's obvious why.. better acting - a good film score - well written - tighter direction. the problem is that because of the odd one good o ne ... a bunch of shitty low budget copycat productions immediately start up - pumping out their direct to video garbage with '...better than Road Warrior' ... Sid Kidneys of the Melonville Weekly.... on the back cover to lend some bullshit credibility |

Yeah.. I was reading reviews of D&D on rottentomatoes.com and although there were only a couple of them, the good reviews completely blew me away. How can someone have THAT little taste in films?
Aside form fan boys hating it, what about the fact that it was just a bad movie?
