You didn't like Hot Fuzz?
Yeah, I liked it alright...which is why I didn't mention it among the shit...though in all honesty I think this particular film just suffered from not being as good as it's spiritual predecessor of a pretty similar genre.
Shaun was like a 9. Hot Fuzz. Hm. 6-7?
The rest don't even rate for me.
I wasn't too bothered by him in Star Trek, though I don't think he suited the part too well, and in all honesty they didn't give him much to do except for playing with the transporter tech similar to what Chekov was doing.
Yes, I like the Chekov guy, pretty good young actor there in all I've seen him in.

Just watched "The Faculty".
IMO one of the better body snatchers clones. I actually thought sci-fi/horror both had a pretty good run around this timeframe.

In my book it's the other way around, although not THAT high ranked.

More like Fuzz 8, Shaun 7.

Just thought you'd be extremly happy to know..

The Tenant (1976). Classic psychological thriller.

Youth in Revolt

It was cute. Definitely a lot more muted than I had anticipated. Unfortunately, the previews show all of the laugh-out-loud parts, so the laughs were already anticipated. Regardless, the writing was absolutely fantastic. Gustin Nash creates and overly-dramatic teen romance to the tune of French melodrama. I found the lines brilliant and meticulously delivered by both Michael Cera and Portia Doubleday.

Enjoyable, but not the comedy that I was hoping for. Definitely worth seeing, but you don't need to pay theater prices for it.

3/5.

Daybreakers

Another slight disappointment. It wasn't bad, per se. In fact, I enjoyed it all the way through. The concept and the world that they create is incredible and intriguing. The special effects and gore are fantastic and Sam Neil was brilliant. I was significantly more interested in the vampire world than the human world, so I didn't really sympathize with the plight of the humans (the main human characters are two-dimensional, even Willem Dafoe - his character really stuck out like a sore thumb). Like The Breed, this movie is intriguing and highly entertaining, but I think that with its budget and star power it could have been better. Regardless, it was a good addition to the growing vampire mythos.

3.25/5.

I'm glad I caught Sherlock Holmes on Friday instead of one of these two. Youth in Revolt looked fun, I was contemplating Nine, but my girlfriend was dead set on Holmes. I'm glad she was.
It didn't turn out to be that much of an action packed shitsplat. Holmes was very physical, but its not just a smashcut heavy fightfest. The plot actually follows Conan Doyle logic with a lot of neopulp and sorta steampunky elements thrown in. Robert Downey Jr. was a great Holmes, not played just as a junkie or a square, but as a gauche autistic savant type constantly living in his head and half as charming as he thinks he is. Jude Law's Watson was a good complement to this vision of Holmes, not a bumbling idiot but a longsuffering friend and sidekick trying to differentiate and rid his life of somebody who's not just an obnoxious pest but an obnoxious pest he believes in. 4/5, recommended
Also watched Lady Vengeance and Animal House yesterday. Lady Vengeance felt slow and convoluted, but Animal House is Animal House so cleansed my palate rather well.

Yeah, we probably should have watched Holmes. Glad you liked it. I'll definitely check it out.

Grey Gardens

Tragic real-life Sunset Boulevard. Grim biography of the Bouvier Beale mother/daughter aunt/cousin of Jackie Onassis who wasted away in their decrepit estate. Brilliant performance by Jessica Lange, though not-so-brilliant performance by Drew Barrimore (painful, actually). Sad, yet captivating.

4/5.
