They used to show old horror films (50's era) on the public television station on either Friday or Saturday (can't remember which) when I was growing up. No particular movie--I can't remember any one specifically--but actors in monkey/alien/monster suits.

When I was a kid, they would have horror week every now and then for the 4 o'clock movie on a local station.
That's where I first saw Trilogy Of Terror, and as a kid, the story "Amelia" with the Zuni fetish doll scared the crap out of me.

I had seen Creature Feature a few times before this, but this movie got me hooked.

My Dad was a lifelong horror and SF fan, and he introduced me to both when I was just a rugrat, reading me Lovecraft for bedtime stories, I kid you not.

I was also an early reader (age 2) and graduated from children's books to harder stuff quite fast. But as a kid I read adventures of Robin Hood, Knights of the Round Table, in addition to classic Poe and Lovecraft.

So movies came with it. I was born in 41 and can't remember the first horror movie I ever saw but I do remember that Dad took me to see a re-release of Frankenstein in the theater and it scared the bejeezus out of me. So did Dracula and all that other stuff, but even though I was scared I still developed a huge appetite for SF and horror, to this day.

My Mom helped get me hooked. Loved being a kid and seeing horror with fresh eyes for the first time.
Scared me a lot. I miss those days.

The first horror film that I ever saw was a Z-grade film called Octoman. It got me interested in the genre, but the films that really got me hooked were the Hammer Dracula/Frankenstein/Mummy films, and The Blob.

Haha Deadly...

The Universal horror films got me into the genre. On BBC2 there used to be a double bill on a Friday night when I was a kid. The first film was usually an older BW film (often Universal but coulda been some skid row quickie too) - the 2nd was usually a coolour film - a lot of AIP and Hammer.

I usually fell asleep before the end of the 2nd one. I used to be so pissed waking up in bed missing the film...So my first love was Universal films and Lon Chaney Jr (it wasn't for a while til I switched to Karloff)..
