I agree 110% with Cheeba, it's kind of what they do as artists. :)

A frind of mine had surgery performed on his mid-section, and the scar is vertical from his waist to his upper chest, I keep telling him he needs to get a tattoo of a zipper where the scar is. :)

Hammerfan, I agree that you should let your artist design it for you (or design it yourself)

It's really hard to tattoo on scars though.

Hammerfan, I would honestly advise against getting an armband tattoo. They can be really tacky and usually turn out uneven.

Really? Even an armband of paw prints? Well damn......

@nova - yes, I have two tats. I don't have more because for me the tats have to have a special meaning and I haven't found one that's jumped out at me. But, I thought for my 50th birthday coming up, I'd like to get one to celebrate.

Get what you want. If you find a good artist, you won't have any problems. Just listen to their advice, they'll be able to tell you if that placement will work on your body. Most armbands I've seen aren't crooked. It's your birthday, you should go for it. :)

It really depends on the scar - raised heavily keloided don't take ink so well.

But flat 'white' scars cover pretty easily. I have a huge scar on my leg and the part thats tattooed took the ink really well. Obviously the texture of the scarred flesh remains unchanged.

IMO 50 is too old to be getting new tattoos. I believe they should all be gotten when you are young, such as 18-29, just because you should have them go through life with you and experience everything that you do. If you get them so late in life... There really isn't a point.
