hmmm... maybe I came across as a bit harsh. I didn't completely hate the movie, I just didn't think it was nearly as good as everyone else seems to think it was. Some person said it didn't get enough credit, but I honestly think it got WAY too much. As I said a minute ago, it didn't say one thing that hasn't been said before. Not only that, but it left MANY issues that it touched on unresolved. It felt like the movie could never truly make up its own mind on what it was supposed to be about. In other words, it spread itself too thin, it tried to say something about a lot of different things and ended up not saying anything about any of them.

It didn't say anything that hadn't been said before? WHO CARES?! There are no movies that say things that haven't been said before. The movie is great, that is the extent of what I care about.

what made it great??? chances are, you, along with most people, think it's great because it's "brilliant" or something like that. what made it great to you? the cinematography? riiiiight...

I said earlier that originality isn't something I normally look for in movies, but if you take Donnie Darko in the context it is presented in, it isn't what it purports to be. I hate to use this word, but Donnie Darko is a "poser" of a movie. It wants us to think about how incredibly ingenius its producers were, and tries to accomplish this by attempting to disorient and confuse the viewer by throwing all of these images and ideas at you all at once. It touches on so many things, it could never even hope to realize them all unless they wanted a 10 hour "Donnie Darko Trilogy" or something. And I, for one, do not care to sit through 10 hours of "I'm sad" and "Look how smart we are to repackage old ideas and sell them to a new audience who hasn't heard them before."

I also said that I didn't hate the movie. It had some redeeming qualities, no doubt. And like Picasso said, "Talent borrows, genius steals."

Did you even WATCH the movie?

Also, way to read my post in the Big Fish thread and try to work it into a weak insult, and then fail at it. *thumbs up*

Um. I wasn't trying to insult you. I think you're a bit paranoid and arrogant for assuming that people read your posts, much less comment on them.

Voicing opinions on a movie has nothing to do with voicing opinions on a person's character and to think otherwise is not only immature, but slightly delusional. If you feel threatened by someone who doesn't like a movie you like, then details exactly why and points out the movie's flaws, then that's something you will have to work out on your time, not here.

what flaws? "Oh, it says stuff that's been said before!" That's not a flaw, that's your bullshit problem with the movie.

And why do you go back to the Big Fish thread before you reply?

hmmm... why should I go back to the Big Fish thread??? to read one of your posts that you wrongfully assumed I was referencing???

Also, I mean, goddam, I thought I had fully explained why the fact that Donnie Darko saying nothing new is a fault in that particular movie, and not in others.

I, unlike you, honestly don't care if you like the movie and I don't. Not only that, but you're beginning to bore the shit out of me by repeating yourself and I don't have the time or energy to babysit.

well, if you're bored, then why do you come back here? You keep saying it's flawed by not saying anything new, which is bullshit because there hasn't been a movie in the last 10 years at least that's said something new, and I'm repeating myself? Right. And I don't know why you go back to the Big Fish thread, that's why I asked.
