It's less than four months before Paramount and Lucasfilm unspool "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," on May 22, but the marketing campaign for the fourth installment of the franchise has yet to crack a whip and offer up footage from the pic. There's been no teaser, no trailer, no Super Bowl spot; just a one-sheet and exclusive photos handed to magazines like Vanity Fair and Empire or posted on IndianaJones.com. That comes as a surprise at a time when Hollywood is eager to start hyping its summer tentpoles a year in advance -- and when it's been 19 years since the last Indy adventure, "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." First trailers for Par and Marvel's "Iron Man" and Warner Bros.' "The Dark Knight" bowed last summer, for example. But when it comes to "Crystal Skull," Par and Lucasfilm have shown little other than a brief presentation of Steven Spielberg and his cast on set during Comic-Con last July. That will change next week! Par will attach the first teaser for "Crystal Skull" to fantasy pic "The Spiderwick Chronicles" on Feb. 14, with the spot to hit the Web shortly thereafter. Reason for the delay is that the film only recently wrapped, so much of the material that would go into a memorable trailer just wasn't ready until now. Awareness and anticipation also is already high for the pic, so producers didn't feel the need to show too much too soon. "In the case of Indiana Jones, he's such a well-known character that it's not like you have to get out there and introduce something new," said Spielberg spokesman Marvin Levy. "You tailor the campaign to the material. We also want to keep a lot of the surprises. That's part of the fun." So...who's going to book a ticket to The Spiderwick Chronicles with me?:D

Pre-buys of unreleased movies are back in vogue, and USA Network has landed a big one: Paramount and Lucasfilm's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."
USA is buying not only the latest sequel but the first three entries in the series as part of an overall deal that could cost the network $40 million, depending on the box office racked up by "Crystal Skull" in U.S. theaters. (USA's license fee is directly tied to the movie's domestic theatrical revenues.) USA and Par declined to comment on the deal. Paramount won't be releasing "Crystal Skull" until May 22, but the deal calls for USA to get its first runs of the previous three -- "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (1981), "The Temple of Doom" (1984) and "The Last Crusade" (1989) -- in May as a marathon promotional vehicle for the new pic. One reason USA was able to outbid its two main rivals, TNT and FX, for the "Indiana Jones" package is that all four movies are likely to play on both USA and its sister net Sci Fi Channel, with maybe even a run or two on its Bravo sibling. Paramount and USA are still working out the details of these extra exposures; USA is looking to amortize its license fee over at least three networks. USA takes title to "Crystal Skull" in 2011, and during the course of the movie's multiyear license term, Paramount will get the right to sell a few runs to a broadcast net in a carve-out following USA's premiere group of runs.

I just got back from watching jumper (Which I now wish I didn't). It was the first time I've been to the cinema since I saw Die Hard 4.0 I think. But anyway, it was nice to see an advert for both Indiana Jones and the kingdom of crystal skull and John Rambo (Notice they're bringing back all the old characters back for one last movie.)
Looking forward to it! ![]()

I've never "dressed up" for a movie premiere, but I'm seriously considering it.

The poster looks great.
It is kind of a throwback to Raiders, and the trailer is pretty good.
