I don't think it was heaven OR hell...The way they explained it was that they were all caught up in a world of the little girl's making...The strength and power of her pain, anger and strong need for vengeance somehow trapped all of the guilty (through force of the little girl's will...Telekinesis?) in a limbo in which everything that happened was exactly what the little girl (and the woman as she grew older) wanted to happen...She somehow suspended them in her own purgatory that she controlled...Maybe she was granted that power/privilege because of the terrible things they did to her, because they deserved it and she was innocent...

Anyway, as far as the mother and daughter at the end, I SERIOUSLY don't believe that they were dead...It's more like they were stuck in an alternate reality...It made it seem as though there may actually be a way to cross back over...

I was hoping that the second movie would bring them back home...But, it may very well just leave the last one where it was, and start over with something else...I do hope that they can make as many movies as games, and that they continue to make them as well as the first...I would LOVE to see elements of Part 4: The Room, in a movie at some point...That would be incredible

Here's some news:

Silent Hill 2 movie confirmed

[UPDATE] French director Christophe Gans tells magazine DVDrama that the movie is "well underway," though there's confusion over Neil Gaiman's possible contribution.

There are a slew of film adaptations of video games in production right now, Hitman, Alice, and Postal, for example. Now, according to director Christophe Gans, Silent Hill 2 can be added to that list.

Gans, the Antibes-born director of the first Silent Hill movie, has revealed that a second SH film is on the way and that it will correct the mistakes of the first.

The original Silent Hill, released on April 21, 2006, told the story of Rose Da Silva, a mother who sets out to find a town called Silent Hill, which her daughter Sharon calls to in her sleep.

Gans confirmed in an interview with French magazine DVDrama that "there will indeed be a Silent Hill 2 and it is officially ordered and is already well underway. Once he has finished his adaptation of Driver, Roger Avary will be [working on the script], helped by his friend Neil Gaiman."

Roger Avary is a Canadian-born director, producer, and writer. He has previously worked on the screenplays for the first Silent Hill and Killing Zoe and won an Oscar for his work on Pulp Fiction.

British author Neil Gaiman is most famous for his series of Sandman graphic novels and has also worked on screenplays for the TV series of his novel Neverwhere, as well as Mirrormask and Princess Mononoke.

However, Gaiman's actual contribution is now under some doubt, after a post on his own blog stated, "Yesterday I discovered pretty much all of my FAQ messages were people asking whether I was really going to be writing the Silent Hill sequel with Roger Avary. I'm afraid that I don't think I am--I mean, it's the first thing I've ever heard of it, and I'm sure that if they make a sequel Roger would want to write it himself."

Gans' original statement has since been retranslated, so until there is clarification from Gans or Gaiman, some mystery still shrouds the title's development.

Gans added that he may not have time to take on the project himself, due to his commitments on the adaptation of another video game project, Onimusha.

When asked who he would like to see direct if he were unable to, Gans told DVDrama that, "If I cannot take on Silent Hill 2 myself, the director who does would need to continue in the same style as the first film. One does not want to make a Hollywood-style movie, and I think that it makes sense if the director of the sequel is European--in the best case scenario, French."

He also revealed that he was planning a special two-disc collector's-edition DVD of the original Silent Hill, but that would be a long time coming, possibly not for two and a half to three years, and that he intends to start work on it only after finishing up Onimusha.

Some pretty huge news has been hiding in an interview with author Brett Easton Ellis for nearly a month now over at Chuck Palahniuk.net.

During the chat about The Informers, interviewer "Dennis" asks Ellis if Roger Avary is still attached to direct Glamorama.

His reply is shocking.

"He’s going to be shooting Silent Hill 2. As far as 'Glamorama', it’s just very hard to get the money to make it."

Roger Avary wrote the first Silent Hill, Pulp Fiction and directed the awesome Rules of Attraction, so this is a bit of tremendously exciting news! Wait for further details on this as they develop.

Silent Hill sequel official!

Columbia Pictures has finally officially announced a sequel to Silent Hill, which will begin production after the completion of Sony Screen Gems' Resident Evil: Afterlife.

Screenwriter Roger Avary and Samuel Hadida of Davis Films are returning. The screenwriter and producer have signed on for a sequel to their 2006 video game adaptation.

The original, based on the Konami game, centered on a woman who travels to a desolate town to seek help for her ailing daughter only to find supernatural occurrences taking place there.

Davis Films aims to shoot the movie next year after "Resident Evil 4," which it's now prepping.

TriStar released the original "Silent Hill," which earned $47 million domestically; the label has not confirmed involvement on the follow-up.

Avary, best known for his work on Quentin Tarantino scripts such as "Pulp Fiction," also is penning video game adaptation "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" for Davis Films.

The deal is one of several projects for Hadida's company. The French-based banner has come to Toronto with two projects -- Michael Bassett's "Solomon Kane" and the Terry Gilliam-helmed "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus."

In addition to the "Resident Evil" franchise, Hadida counts movies such as "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "The Rules of Attraction" among his credits.

No word on a director yet? Heard awhile back that Gans wasn't planning to return...interested to know who'll be taking the reins. Thought he did a great job on the first, hopefully the next one turns out on par.

The first movie, while it was technically very good, completely botched almost every storyline the games had throughout them. I'm interested to see where this sequel will take the story after butchering it so badly. I hope I will be pleasantly surprised. I'm sure I'll enjoy it more if I can detach it from the games (1-3 at least) and their untouchable perfection.
