The fullest length uncut version of Braindead is not available on VHS or DVD. It has only been shown twice in the US and I was lucky enough to see it. It's a part of Peter Jackson's personal collection that he sometimes loans out.

Here are the many version:
Peter Jackson's version - 104 min
Argentina - 99 min
Australia - 100 min
Germany - 94 min
USA - 97 min (unrated version)
USA - 85 min (R-rated version)

Isn't that sad? I'm so glad I was able to see the longest version.

Here are some Highlights:

***Spoilers***

The Mom is way eviler
The love between the two leads is deeper
The Gore is way beyond what you see in the US uncut version
The Punk Zombie is ripped in half by the two girls when each grabs one of his legs and pulls (like a wishbone) - they each then use a leg to beat the other zombies away
There are a lot more gore scene too

From what I've seen the versions in which they call the movie Braindead is 104 minutes long, although it's the same movie right?

Where do you usually order from? I use only www.play.com, since they ship for free(im from Norway). Are there any other dvd-stores you may suggest which send for free?

I saw "The Fog" today at Wal-Mart on my lunch hour priced at $14.44.

Sometimes I like to gamble and buy a horror movie that I've never seen or heard of just because the payoff is great if the movie turns out to be really good.

Of course, if the movie SUCKS it sucks to be stuck with a sucky movie but once in a while I'll take a gamble on one.

I saw a movie by the name of "Freak" at Media Play and just bought it without knowing a thing about it beforehand.

Has anyone else seen "Freak?"

sounds familiar but I havent seen it.. and I know what you mean about gambling.. if I find a movie that I know is good for a cheap price I will get it.. But I have stopped judging a movie by the cover art...

Peter Jackson's version is not available on DVD or Video, but they do have various copies of both Braindead and Dead Alive on video/DVD in both rated and unrated versions as well as specific cuts for different countries too.

The best video store here in San Francisco has four version (two are imports from Japan and Australia with the title Braindead).

I don't blame Peter Jackson for keeping the most complete version to himself. The movie is brilliant and knowing there is an even longer version that is pretty much inaccessible just adds to the mystic of the film.

I would kill for the Peter Jackson version on DVD though!

It was loaned to the San Francisco Film Festival a few years back when they added the horror genre to the festival (I can't believe they never had a horror genre before then). A representative from Peter Jackson's group spoke to the audience about the version we were about to see which is where my information is coming from. The line went completely around the block and you know all the SF freaks came out in droves to see it.
