correct ...

what i'm saying is that people who make them usually dont keep them.
if you have a real conviction about something you wont need an excuse or some kind of a weird milestone as a starting block - you'll take action immediately.
(stop smoking, losing weight)

the health and fitness clubs are full of people who are determined to lose weight by joining. they put out marketing to embrace/take advantage of this.
So the 1st couple of weeks after new years the places are jam packed ... and then they quickly peter off as people lose interest and forget how important that resolution was.

again - i stress.. if it is truely important - you'll do it now. and if you are that kind of person - you'll be more apt to have success.

I don't think resolutions have to be all that important, just reflective of something an individual might want to change, plan ahead for...etc...not neccessarily about them, as a person...I agree on the whole quitting smoking type things, and health related stuff, no sooner should the thought occur, it should be put into practice...but there's other stuff too.
I mean, I don't personally do the "resolutions" thing, I mean, why is it of any more relevance in the new year?
but...I tend to think about things that I'd like to change/do more of/less of, and all that, in advance, if I give myself solid goals then it's something to strive for...sometimes it's hard to make good on each and every thought/idea in the immediate time of conception (eg - sticking with studies, something I can't do 'til my college is back in, the boxing thing well, info's needed there, the live performance stuff, gotta wait for some good stuff to come along), in fact, most of what I said (just to post in here) is pretty much already underway, but still, I tend to set goals here and there just to keep things rolling in the right direction for me, I work better with structure.
But yeah...the whole "do this in the new year" thing, I've seen people get into the new year fads, and you're right, there's an initial interest, then loss thereof for the better part. Best to know what you want, and do what you can to get 'em started ASAP. If a person is unhappy with themselves for some reason, they can't just say "new years = I am a new person", takes more effort than that.

Smoke the rest of what you have now, and don't buy another pack. Eat fresh, cut down on takeaway, walk or bike ride at night. All small, easy stuff that anyone can do, at any time. The smoking thing (as I've been lead to understand it), quitting makes you feel like shit, and it's pretty hard. I assume ditching ANY chemical dependance aint great (I know how it is with caffeine), and fucks with the routine you and your body are used to...but...it's just as hard any time of year. Like I said, when it's health related, best to take measures (even small ones) to fix it straight away.

New years resos. Well I sorta completed the ones I had written up for this year. So next year I gotta do better.

Lets see. Next year I think im gonna try and look for my birth mum. Find out what happened 20+ years ago. I haven't seen her since I was 3 or something,. I barely remember her.

I gotta change my hairstyle. All fucking frizzy. No control at all.

Look into wearing some makeup. I will never wear lippy so thats out haha.

Get a car

Buy some shoes. I got 1 pair of boots. Thats it haha. I love my boots but there gonna die soon.

Find some female friends. No not the girly type more the tomboyish type.

Go to the movies more often. This year we almost cut out even going out cos of the course and lack of cash.

So that means I needa job haha. I don't care if it's a delivery job, its a darn job.

Have a girly moment. Maybe go get a facial or something. Maybe I should let my nails grow too while im at it.

I gotta lose another 5kgs or so. Just tone up. Get some more muscle so I can smack cheebs around a bit more. :P

Buy a digital camera

Explore nature a bit more. Having a car will help that.

I think thats it so far. :)

Sure it seems like a great time to make a life change, but if you know whaty you plan to change, why not start today?

I agree as well to a point. I'll already have Agrippa's works and have been doing some background research. I'm already taking exercise and have already lost a shitload of weight, I have Wandering on the Way (shit I've read most of it), I've been working with wolf preservation (made a mad Yuletide donation today). As for smoking, quitting is an on going process, if you fall off of that proverbial horse, you get back on as soon as possible. (I am determinded to kick this habbit).

Ultimately, I think the whole "Resolution" issue serves as an impetus for many and stimulus for others. Also, I think ya might be taking this thread a tad too seriously. I mean it's kind of an interesting look at things that are important to each member who has posted.

Actually, I agree with Urge as well. However, if it gives people a reason to reflect on what they would like to change where they might not otherwise think about it, nothing wrong with that. Better than not doing it at all. Now, if we could all just do what we plan to do, that's the hard part. :)
