I personally enjoyed the film. But I'm more of a Freddy fan if I had to choose one. My favorite Villain is Freddy, but my favorite movie is Halloween....Freaky. |

I completly agree that this movie is by no means the pinicle of horror movies and I aprechiate the continual input.

The way that I took it, Freddy won anyway.
Taken from a short review I wrote on the film: "...but I liked the outcome more than most. I was cheering for Freddy. Sure, Freddy technically loses, but I think that's a testament to him being the better villain: Think about it, the villain always loses in slasher movies. In that respect, I say Freddy won and rightfully deserved to."

Whatever happened to Ronny Yu? He looked like he had some promise as a horror director.

I would take the stand that it was neither, and that's why it alienated the fans. The Nightmare feel is all but gone, with dreams that are a far cry from most Freddy dreams. Freddy's nigh Vaudevillian antics are replaced by straightforward slap-you-in the face Jungian psychology, which is not most people's cup of tea. The lack of gore and the slightly more fleshed out teen characters made it nothing like a Friday entry. There were homages at best with no true Friday or Nightmare content. I think liking Freddy vs. Jason is more about liking Freddy vs. Jason than liking Friday or Nightmare. I enjoyed the meditation on the content and the icons, but it's outside either category. Bold and antagonistic when you're dealing with diehard fanbases like that. The sort of things I expect to hear about the Rob Zombie Halloween are easily said about F vs. J. That said, Ronnie Yu is a cool guy that I think gave mouth to mouth to franchises that were gasping for ideas. Sorta like what he did in Bride of Chucky.
