If I even thought you were serious I would still be totally offended.

Let me just get something straight with you. I would never respond to something like that. What you just did disturbs me on levels that you have no idea that I have. (However, those people that really know me understand).

Don't ever talk to me like that, again. You don't know who you're dealing with, bucko!

There are movies that define genres...these are seldom "lived up to", the combination of elements simply arent there for the majority of films of the same genre to follow.
Sure, certain elements are present...and they can make pretty good attempts (of course, they can make pretty SHIThouse attempts too) but much of the time, that certain precise mixture...simply cannot be replicated. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, I mean if somebody DID manage to pull off a near flawless attempt, their film would be called a knock-off.
However, enjoying a genre of film will not come easy if you have comparison hangups, I myself have attempted to train myself out of it, which IS difficult.
I'm not entirely happy with the zombie genre as a whole...there have been MANY crap zombie flicks...in fact, too many. But then again, I could say that about horror in general.
But, there ARE some that are really worth watching, that make the whole "quest" worthwhile, but essentially this applies to all kinds of films. It's just a matter of lowering your expectations...not TOO much, just a little...and you may find that you have the chance to enjoy films when you're not nitpicking about them.

In a more specific answer to the question initially asked - No.
I wouldn't wanna miss out on things like "shaun of the dead" and "versus", both of which I love. Besides, even if a zombie movie is crappy...unless it's TOTALLY bad, I still enjoy seeing zombies get all shot up, run over, chopped, beaten up, and punished punished PUNISHED before they drop...yup, I enjoy that more than anything.

The cool thing about the horror genre is that there are SOOOO many crappy movies when a good one comes out it doesn't matter what it's about. Good monster flicks are few and far between today people would apparently watch bad mockumentaries and movies about watching evil tapes and a dead girl in a well. Ooooo psycholigical thrillers are big too. Anyway, if anything is overused it's twist ending and underused (other than talent)... werewolves. Where the hell are all the good werewolf films these days?

I am most definitely sick of the "thrillers" (if you can even call them that, I don't know who they are thrilling, but it certainly isn't me) that try and pass themselves off as horror movies.

I just picked up the new Fangoria today and about 70% of it is all previews on zombie movies. I pretty sick of cheap knock-offs of the great Romero. Is anyone else sick of zombie movies?
Well Romero didn't invent zombies, you know. Although his movies are the best ones out there (with the exception of 'Land'), he was far from the first one to use zombies in a movie.

If you don't like the idea of these new movies, don't watch them!

Shit zombie films have been a problem for decades now, since camcorders became cheap enough to be wielded by any Romero fanboy capable of knocking out mind-numbing post-apocalyptic trash usually about the world taken over by the "undead" and a well armed group of survivors as they struggle to survive against the odds...

Cue lots of abysmal acting, stupid OTT blood effects and plenty of poncing about with capguns.

Bollocks - though the more recent Stink of Flesh is worth seeing.

I still like zombie movies. Like resident evil was pretty good however the recent dawn of the dead movie was missing something. like a survivor. call me old fashioned or just stupid, but I like the older flicks where someone lived to tell the tale. Yeah they end up doomed in the sequel but they just pass the baton to some other survivor in that case.

Everybody loves BRAINS

and yes i'm an asshole for just popping in after being away forever.:D
