The Girl Who Knew Too Much.
With all the giallo talk in HDC recently, I dug out my Mario Bava Collection Vol 1 and treated myself to this beauty. Even after what...30-35 years of its release, its still an excellent visual treat. Its a pretty impressive early Bava giallo, with all the traditional murder mystery angle. Hardcore fans might be a tad disappointed with the toned down gorific brutality and sexuality, but you have to admire Bava's brilliance in deftly handling the finer aspects of gialli film-making - the background score, the darkly tinted visuals, the perfect creepy settings...and the atmosphere. You will forget for a sec that its totally b/w, and just sit back and admire the genius of Bava, as he goes about this almost Hitchcock-ian tribute with the perfect ease of a master at work. Heck...I have to agree with Elvis and admit that, between Argento and Bava, Bava definitely holds a slight edge. Rating - * * * * ½
