The Passion of the Christ is DEFINITELY OVERRATED!
But, as a horror movie, it is underrated. It's a good horror film, lousy anything else film. I totally agree with AndyK on this one. Talk about the unnecessary violence! After watching this steaming pile, I read the scenes over as they were depicted in the first 4 books of the New Testament ... and the whipping scene is in none of them. And only ONE mentions that he was whipped. And it is a small mention ... like "after he was scourged, they hauled him away" (or something like that, I don't have my Bible handy.) But the movie spends about 10-15 minutes on this scene alone! There is NO way that a human being could have been tortured like that and survive (let alone have the strength to haul a big-ass cross all over town.) No, Mel Gibson uses this scene simply to shock his audience with violence, blood and gore (and the Christians love it! What the fuck is that all about??)
