Wow; didn't know that you weren't a zombie fan - I, myself, have been a bit burned out on the genre as of late, so I totally get it. What horror comedies do you actually like?

All great movies and worthy choices. Of course, being the creaky old antique I am, I'd include a nod to the classic zombie films, and by classic I mean PRE-ROMERO, like White Zombie or I Walked With a Zombie. Pulling from the traditional zombie lore as they do, they are interesting to look at in terms of class and race- WHITE Zombie is even overt about it.

I don't think that I've seen any of the pre-Romero zombie movies but they're really interesting to read about - I think that it's interesting how zombies evolved when Romero picked up the camera - I'd love to hear about them!

If I had to choose three zombie films they would probably be:
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
The Evil Dead (1981)
Return of the Living Dead

These films are not only great, but they are definitely three very different zombie films. One issue of this sub-genre is monotony. Different takes on zombies are nearly always my favorite. Also, I love social commentary, but there are some great zombie films without it.

Re: Evil Dead - You know, I never really thought of the Deadites as Zombies; I'm not sure why; maybe I always considered them more under the "Evil Possession" category vs. Zombies.

I have always loved Night of the Living Dead - In fact, all of my nightmares about zombies stem from that movie - Typically it's me running from the shambling creatures and trying to escape them by climbing trees... Of course, the hubby revealed that that's a TERRIBLE idea as I'd be stuck up the tree (but the nightmares never got that far).

I haven't seen the Night of the Living Dead remake but I do think that there are merits to the remake of Dawn (now THAT is a movie that the hubby rewatches all the time!)

The hubby LOVES the original Dawn of the Dead - It's been a while since I've seen it; I'll have to rewatch it.

Btw, I'd love to recommend Harold's Going Stiff (2011) to everyone...after THE REVENANT this is one of the finest zombie flicks I've seen in recent times.

Great movie. Original comedy drama and definitely worth a watch. Quality low budget, character driven story.

No worries! I think I'm going to move to a model more like Villain's anyway - When I actually have plans on Sundays I have a hard time committing to a specific time and as for Tuesday nights, I want to start heading to the gym after work and I'm not sure I'll be able to make it back for 7:00 (I have a specific weight loss goal for October to ensure that I am DEAD SEXY for Halloween).

So why don't we do this - I'll still post the movies I'm watching each week, target a specific day, and then Thursdays will maintain that 8:00 timeslot.

A change in movies. I still haven't seen Zombie 2. I remember Tarantino getting a laugh about the fact that it was called Zombie 2 and there wasn't a Zombie 1. I'll try to find it.

A local theatre has a FREE showing of Fulci's Zombi this Friday- so that's where I'll hopefully be.
