Halloween 3 will be 3D!

Word has begun to spread that Dimension has halted production on the 3-D follow-up to Rob Zombie's duo of Halloween films, currently slated to be directed by Patrick Lussier.

The helmer of My Bloody Valentine, another 3-D horror hit, Lussier is slated to begin production on another film in January, forcing an ultra-fast turn-around for Halloween 3-D.

According to Deadline Hollywood's Nikki Finke: "The script only came in Friday, and it was the first draft that Dimension Films had seen. And The Weinstein Co. was rushing to get the film into production for a November start date… But I understand that Bob Weinstein shut down H3D pre-production 'because Bob just felt it was rushing too fast.'"

Difficult to say what the real motivations might have been, but it looks fairly confirmed that we won't be seeing another Halloween film in the very near future.

It's possible that with another director, or some miracle back-to-back scheduling, that it might drop in time for an October 2010, but that's only pure speculation for now.

I think they should push it straight down the drain before it's too late.

I think they should give it time. I love seeing Michael, love it. But if they bring him back I think it would be cool to see a majority of it based in the asylum Laurie's locked up in (presumably Smith's Grove). Brackett visits her every now and then, they're separated by glass each time but he never gets much out of her anyway. Around Halloween-time Michael shows back up (with a fresh new mask! ;)) and Laurie gets free from her room. I just think it would be cool to have the hulking Myers slicing his way through the asylum trying to find his sister plowing through employees and patients alike and little, silent Laurie stalking around in the shadowy corners just as crazy as her brother.

It would suck, but damn it I'd enjoy it.

If they do go through with a third, I hope they continue from H2 and have Laurie as the killer. I like your idea MM, only minus the "bringing him back" part. Ol' Mikey should only be in this one like his mother was in H2 - Laurie's visions/nightmares.

I'm happy as long as I get to see Michael kill somebody at least once, be it hallucination, dream, whatever they come up with.

Was FX artist Gary Tunnicliffe, responsible for the guts and gore of My Bloody Valentine 3D and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, hired to provide the carnage for Halloween 3-D?

According to Shock 'Till you Drop, Tunnicliffe was indeed set to deliver the kills on the franchise three-quel before production on the film was stalled late last month.

"I was very sad to see H3D halted," said Tunnicliffe to STYD. "Patrick [Lussier] was really amped up to deliver something the fans would really like, the script was very cool, great fun and the 'vibe' was to take the movie back to the tone and feel of the original film but with 3D technology and some VERY cool kills…Hopefully we will get our chance to go to Haddonfield, spill a little crimson and have a little fun."

It's uncertain when production will re-commence on the film and whether director Lussier – or Tunnicliffe on FX – will return to guide the project home.

Drive Angry 3D may not have been a blockbuster hit in theaters, but its fun mix of supernatural horror, humor, and high-octane car chases should win a much bigger audience when it hits DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday May 31.

Hopefully that'll help move things along on writer Todd Farmer and director Patrick Lussier's Halloween III.

What can we expect from Michael Myers in Halloween III?

Lussier: Todd and I wrote it to be a continuation of Zombie's Halloween II and the set-up for the franchise that he did, a sort of reboot of that. Then take it back to the roots of John Carpenter and create a scenario that echoes the first film, the late ‘70s film that John made. And going back to the tone of Carpenter and the fun that his movie had, and how much you really liked all the characters and how compelling they are. That to us was the reason to do it. Both of us love the original Halloween and remember seeing it in the theater for the first time and being completely terrified and blown away by it. It's been repeated so many times – there's pieces of the original Halloween in Halloween H2O. That was something we were very excited to do. The script's still out there. We're waiting for Dimension Films to decide that's what they want to make next. We spoke recently about it and voiced our passion for the project.

Farmer: We took Zombie's story and we continued that story without breaking the rules, without cheating. We kept it in the world that he did. But our goal was to return to a John Carpenter tone. And while Zombie created a Michael Myers that was sort of a T-Rex – and I appreciate that; it was something different – at the same time I always felt Halloween was one of the movies that made me what I am. So I've always loved the fact that Michael was a prick and devious in the way he operated. He was The Shape. Which we're continuing in a fun way – part Zombie and part Carpenter.

In returning to the Carpenter tone, is the film not likely to be in 3D?

Lussier: When they originally asked us to do it, they wanted it in 3D. Whether it's 3D or not now, I have no idea. That's for the grown-ups. We conceived it to work either way. Story comes first. So the story will work whether it's shot in 2D or 3D. If it's shot in 3D, we'll put a little 3D rollercoaster in it so that everybody can get a blast out of it. That's always up to those who paid for it. [Laughs.]

Farmer: It's a Halloween movie, and of course we're thrilled and can't wait to do it. We wrote it before going into production on Drive Angry, and the plan was to shoot it before Drive Angry. But it just turned out to be impossible. At this point now, all the focus is on Hellraiser. And as soon as we're done with Hellraiser then hopefully we can roll right onto Halloween.

Seeing the way Halloween 2 ended, I'm not sure what to expect... although I have a feeling this will be it's own thing, like it will completely ignore the remakes (seeing how h20 skimmed over 4, 5 and 6). But again, I don't know what's going to be happening, could be anything by this point. I am a bit excited to see it in theaters, though ^-^

Beats me. I hate 3D and think its killing movies. I dont see the appeal especially since it dominates the movie and makes it all about the 3D instead of the plot. But im gonna stop now because i think i already had this rant in a different forum, probably for the TCM movie thats gonna be in 3D :(
