So, I hope you can find some folk who share your enthusiasm with the franchise, but you're not likely to find them here. But, if you're willing to explore other films in the genre, there are a great many of knowledgeable folk here. :)

I agree, all it is now are films with ludicrously complex death traps (may I remind you of the giant swinging axe. Seriously, where did he get the materials for these things?) and then a scene at the end where it replays the films events showing extra stuff to reveal a predictable twist.

Yeah, beyond the third one which I found a little convoluted in itself, I think the storyline has become just, allover the place.
Sure, I wondered what was in the box but I don't really care as even if they do reveal that there'll only be yet another open ended scenario such as this one. I really enjoyed the first one, and thought the second while different was more than an acceptable follow up. The third finished up the initial storyline but the whole thing had begun to wear thin with me by then, didn't much like it by comparison. The fourth had the one "origin" scene that I really liked, but otherwise "whatever". The fifth, was just a mess. I just watch them to see people get fucked up these days, and precious little else.

I'll admit: I haven't hated any of them yet. The most recent two have been ultra-convoluted and didn't bring anything new to the table AT ALL. That said, there are far worse horror flicks out there these days - and compared to other slasher sagas, it's holding up DAMN well.
Seriously, by the time Nightmare on Elm Street got to #5 it was pretty awful...Hellraiser was dead at 3...Friday the 13th was still holding up to an extent, but 5 was a step down and 6 was the nail in the casket - compared to these supposed "classics", I think we should be giving Saw more credit. Still - I wouldn't be overly upset if part 6 was never made. I'll see it when it comes out - and, by comparison, I guess you could say I'm looking forward to it more than most other mainstream/big-budget horror releases this year - but that's only because the there's not a lot on the horizon. It'll be a bearable time waster and might have some decent gore, but I wont expect a lot.

I would enjoy them more if they just took the torture scenes and bunched them up for a nice short 10 minute movies.

I love the SAW Series of movies. I think it's one of the best made series of Horror flicks to come out in a long time. I'm interested in the characters and story, not to mention the creative traps to kill people.
I can't wait till part 6 is out - I REALLY want to know what's in that box. I want to know if Hoffman and Jigsaw's wife are/will be working together to carry more dirty deeds out. I want parts 7, 8 and 9 to also be released. Love these movies! |

Don't get me wrong I like SAW, I thought is was fun sleezy exploitation...and I love exploitation! I just don't follow anything past 3 installments, especially since this one wrapped up so nicely at 3.
I know the writers, they are friends of mine and I wish them well. Go ahead, make as many as the market will bear... but I won;t be bothering with them anytime soon

I stopped watching after the third. So if it explained the entire story of the fourth and fifth installments so I wouldn't have to sit through them... I probably still wouldn't see it.
