weird coincidence seeing this thread.

just yesterday i was thinking about this very album, and how i used to listen to it while doing those 1000 piece crossword puzzles in the basement of my parents house..... i was just thinking how i should spin the disc again.

That must be the first pressing of that Grand Funk album is it? I've only seen it with a yellow cover over here.

@newb: Never got into Molly Hatchet as much as some people do but if I find any albums in the cheap bin when I'm hunting for vinyl I'm gonna give 'em another day in court.

ahhh the mighty MC5! High Time is a pioneering album for the 70s. Soulful rock, its weird it never took off and was largely ignored upon release. Its one I listen to all the time.

The old coloured vinyl was bad for your stylus I hear?

I used to get into coloured/picture discs but found the sound to be a little shitty compared to normal wax especially with picture discs.

I imagine there'd be a bunch of gems in your collection. I'm just starting on a new collection I used to have a bunch but had to part with 'em to get rid of some debt awhile back. Its a bit daunting starting all over again but I manage to find a few resonably priced gems here and there. I've got CD-Rs of a lot of the stuff I used to have and mainly pick up stuff I haven't heard before and don't any sort of copy of so I don't get carried away and spend to much money.

oh yeah - as with the movies and books - there's one advantage to being older (especially if you have the collectors sickness)

is that I started collecting stuff in the 70's and have a lot of rare junk now just by the virtue of never getting rid of anything.

i didnt know coloured vinyl was bad for the stylus .. oh well.

i have a few others as well ... and a couple of those 'laser-etched' discks .. like Split-enz's True Colours' when albums came out with variations on the cover i tried to get them all as well ..

Yeh I've heard some of the older coloured records were made from different stuff than they do now and cause more wear on the stylus.

That edition of True Colours is really cool. I've seen that a few times over here.

I don't think I'll parting with any of my stuff soon (unless the albums totally suck) been enjoying hoarding lots of different things.

Can't stand Grand Funk. Never could. Just fucking commercial crap, IMO.

I do love Cactus though. Saw them in concert in the early 70s with Ted Nugent and Bob Seger before he went commercial. Amazing show.

Sure it's commercial like 99% of rock music but Grand Funk are a lot of fun just like Kiss.

They really didn't go "commercial" until "American Band", but that album had some killer cuts on it. IMO

The mid to late 70s was a tough time for some of these bands. The music was changing and some of them tried to conform....not always with good results.

and my motto stands now as it did back then
