The fires that were down near my family seemed to have been dealt with, A lot of houses lost and some lives though... If only it would rain, but I don't think there has been any rainfall in Victoria for a month or more.

I've been watching some videos of survivors storys on the news websites... Some real horror storys.

I live in Victoria, there was 2 fires around near me, but not really close enough to cause any real concern. One had 6 fire units attending it, and i don't know the other one. I was watching fire trucks go past my friends place on saturday when i was there. There was also smoke blotting out the mountains where i live from the fires that were burning in other parts of the state. Those firefighters are real heroes, imagine wearing fire suits on a day as hot as that. Everyone seems really affected by it. Unfortunately some people get too emotionally involved. I have someone texting me, telling me she is crying because of it. Sure it's bad, but what can the normal person really do except make a donation, or post a comment on a site? I don't allow myself to get that emotionally involved in it. I just keep it in perspective. Lets not forget that some of these fires are suspected of being deliberately lit. Our PM is calling those responsible "Mass murderers". It will be very interesting to see what justice will be handed out to those responsible. Our country is generally very weak when it comes to jail terms or punishment. Apparently in N.S.W they have caught a 31 yr old and a 15 yr old who are suspected of lighting fires up there.

It's an incredibly dire time for those people in the affected areas. The sheer horror and speed of the flames has been almost unimaginable. Stories of people begging to be let past barricades to still fire torn areas so they can search for there missing family members are just shattering.

I buzzed a bank transfer over to the appeal as much as I could afford and I just hope that the weather ligthens up and things can come back under control for them in Victoria and the effected towns and begin to re-build.

There is over 170 confirmed dead yet, I was just watching a story where they can only gues with some by jewlery that has been found, I guess some people have been cremated.. the true death toll of all this won't be known untill all fires are shut down and every missing person is acounted for...

I'm a very proud Victorian and this makes me pretty sad... I hope the CFA can hold thier legs and win this over...

Wow, that's so depressing. Only knowing your loved ones are dead by finding wedding rings and jewelry, I can't imagine.

Disease, has your family found somewhere safe to stay, or are they relatively okay where they are?

I just spoke to m,y mum, there were fires 50 kilometers one side and 50 k the other but they have been taken care of. The rest of my family seem safe as well, Victoria is a big place.

When I was talking to one of my brothers the other day he told me how the tar from the road had spat up onto his car when he went to visit one of our other brothers in N,S,W last week due to the heat, the god damn roads were melting...

It will make it somewhat better if we beat the Kiwis in the cricket today...

All the profits from the One Day International in Adelaide between Australia and New Zealand today aregoing towards the crisis...

It's just crazy that there are these awful fires in southern Australia, and awful flooding in northern Australia.

Yeah, it's the wet season in Queensland, it's more tropical up there... If somehow the two could meet.
