Not to mention Australian metallers Segression - whose whole band is now in a nu-metal side project... "We want to sell out, but not under our main name".

What is the appeal of retarded, untalented, uncreative bands? I don't get it. But it may be due to the fact that young people have never been exposed to truly great music (Beatles,Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath etc.) and therefore don't recognize utter SHIT when they hear it.

I respect your opinion, however, it is of significance that some of these bands' musical works are over 30 years old, and still seems to appeal to many people today. Also, those who study the evolution of rock music, actually believe, and I wholeheartedly agree, that these bands are pretty darn important in it's progression. Finally, it is my belief that in another 30 years, these bands will still be listened to and remembered for their historical significance. I wonder if the musical works of a band like Drowning Pool will be remembered and listened to over 30 years after creation, like with every band I mentioned is today. I seriously doubt it.

Joel has a point - the bands he listed have stood the test of time. But I disagree with him generally because I think a few of the bands that are around now shit all over the generally-speaking boring and monotonous older bands you listed. They've taken the platforms built by the Zeppelin's and the Black Sabbath's and created something over the top of that which is more exciting, more complicated and generally more intense.

Plus: My dad owns the full back catalogue of a couple of the bands you mentioned on vinyl - I've heard enough of it to know that it's about as interesting as a new Vanilla Ice album.

You wonder? Why wonder? We both know that they aren't going to be listened to them 30 years from now.
