He points out that there is no CGI in the film at all and that it's a throwback to classic horror. He goes on to say that the villain in I WANT TO BELIEVE doesn't have to be a video game looking creature made from some cheesy CGI studio. He also compares it to THE DARK KNIGHT! Other people are complaining about what Ebert likes. I think this review bodes well for fans of classic horror.

There are alot of negative reviews coming out. They say it's like an average stand alone episode of the TV show. That's sounds pretty good to me. Still, I hope they do better than that. There was alot of legal haggling going on that postponed this production; I hope they just didn't do a careless rush job. There are no midnight screenings in my area. Batman has gobbled up all the screens I guess. Bad omens abound. I want to believe.

I loved it. It's an an antidote to all the loud superhero movies this summer. Don't get me wrong , I like all of them-except hancock-but this was a cool ,quite and creepy film in the spirit of classic horror. It will be ignored, but to the few who see it, it 's a nice creepy treat. It's somewhat sad, but it's a fitting end to the series. I:o love how it's not a hyped up metaphor. I guess I'm talking to myself, but this film will truly please all fans of THE X-FILES.

This is one X-Files fan who wasn't pleased with the movie in any way, shape, or form. I was sorely disappointed in just about every way imaginable, but I guess I set my expectations too high. I will say that it might have made a nice stand-alone TV episode...with a lot of editing. |

The papers here have given it a "forget it" rating. It was 2.5 stars out of 5. "I want to believe" that it will be a good movie. I have read that the biggest problem with the movie is that the chemistry between Scully and Mulder has gone. Who enjoyed the original X-files movie here? I thought it was pretty good. I hope to see the new movie tonight or tomorrow, and i will let you know what i thought.

I loved the first movie. In fact, I loved just about everything about the series. That would explain why I have all nine seasons on DVD and gobble up everything X-Files. It would also explain why I expected so much more from this movie. I mean...c'mon. I've been waiting for years for this movie, but it wasn't one that I expected or wanted or, more importantly, liked. (I don't think anything I'm about to type qualifies as spoilers, but I would rather be safe than sorry. There could be spoilers ahead.) For those who didn't like the "mythology" aspect of the series, they should like the content of this movie. There isn't a whiff of that stuff present, which might explain why I didn't like the movie. I loved the "mythology" and was thrilled every time Cigarette-smoking Man, Krycek, or a UFO showed up on the screen. That being said, I did enjoy the stand-alone episodes, and as I wrote in an earlier post, this would have made an okay one with some editing. The problem was that everything about the movie dragged and seemed forced - the acting, the storyline, the bon mots, the climax (if you can call it that). As for the complaints about shoddy special effects and/or no CGI, I was kind of pleased with that. Plus, there was really no need for it because the storyline didn't support it. And if I were Mitch Pileggi...well don't get me started. Also, there seemed to be too much "timely" stuff in this movie. A pedophile priest, stem-cell research, gay marriage (just a glancing mention), Scully's arguments with the priest at the Catholic hospital where she worked, and a political "funny" moment seemed to overwhelm everything. I could have lived with about half that stuff, but it seemed that Chris Carter and the writers didn't want to leave anything out. Personally, I would have left the Scully/hospital storyline out. Other than a REALLY WEAK connection to the psychic storyline, it was pointless. I know someone will say it led to Scully's "realization" moment, but who the hell cares? If after all the crap she saw/experienced with Mulder over the years didn't help, I don't think some cryptic message from a jacked-up psychic would do the trick. I was thoroughly disappointed in this movie (as if you couldn't tell:)). If it's any indication of the direction The X-Files is moving in, I vote for no more movies. And it hurts me to say that. |

I think that this movie should have been an episode on tv. I admit that the overall storyline was good but the ending was crap. There was nothing dramatic about the end. It was just a case of well this happened for this reason, movie concludes the end. To see this i wonder if the fans think that this should actually have been made? It's always a case of lets rehash something from the good old days. Instead maybe they should sit down and think maybe we should just leave it alone as it was.....

The X Files movie was a weird one. I can see why so many people hated it, but if you went in knowing that Carter had said it was a movie-length episode I don't think you'd be that disappointed. I wasn't. Much. It wasn't great, but I found it satisfying - and the storyline was killer.
I was aware that something had really bothered me about it, though, and one of the above posters just revealed it to me. I think. Mulder and Scully's chemistry did seem to have gone. Fine, they were in the situation they were in and it worked - but the actors seemed to have lost it a bit. I was severely disappointed by some of the attitudes the characters expressed, particularly Scully in being completely unsupportive of Mulder even though she'd presented him with the case in the first place. Although it was understandable she wants to "stay away from the darkness", the friction between them was too over the top and unbelieveable. She'd leave him just because he's spending some time with a psychic? Nah. I DO hope for another movie, though. On December 22, 2012. Now that would be amazing. |
