for those that have been around for a while .. it's become a bit of a joke on the forum ...

there have been so many people in here over the years researching on horror and violence - it's actually getting to be pretty funny ..

there should just be one sheet already completed that we hand out to folks at the door..

1. How many horror films have you watched over the past three months?
1-5 6-10 11-15 16-20 20+

2. How many of these were viewed at home?

0 1-5 6-10 11-15 16-20 20+

3. How many of these did you view alone?

0 1-5 6-10 11-15 16-20 20+

4. Why would you watch horror films in a group?

if i was in a group - and we wanted to watch a movie - and a horror film was picked. no other reason. never happens though.

5. Why would you watch horror films alone?

my wife isn't interested in them and my kid is too young.

6. (If you answered that you did watch films alone) Did you ever re-watch isolated clips of any of the film?

Yes

No

Please explain why. N/A

7. Were any of these clips violent in nature?

Yes

No

Please explain why: N/A

8. What in your opinion is the difference in watching a horror film in a cinema and watching a horror film at home?

the cinema has a bigger screen and better sound. plus i will have seen it before someone who has tells me all about it.

9. Do you find that you react more or differently to scenes of real violence (for example news footage)?

absolutely - i cant watch them

10. How do you find that you react differently to these “real” scenes of violence in comparison to staged violence?

real negative events have a negative affect on me. i am perfectly clear about the difference between fantasy and reality. in a film i'm watching a special effect and actors - the news shows the pain of real people. i cannot stand to see real people in distress.

almost every time someone does this - it's either focusing on determining/proving if there is a direct line between horror movies and the desensitization of the viewer (like this one obviously was)

or

why do people watch horror movies. the answers invariably being :

- the roller coaster thrills - provokes an emotional reaction that makes me feel alive.
- i like being scared
- i like to face my fears/mortality

for your desensitisation research - check V's thread :

http://www.horror.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33781

for some better information.

4. Why would you watch horror films in a group?

I would watch a horror flick in a group if some friends wanted to watch a movie or something and we picked a horror flick as the movie to watch. Also I don't really like watching movies alone unless I am at the theatre seeing it for the first time.

5. Why would you watch horror films alone?

Because I normally watch NEW horror flicks in the theatre and for the most part I go there alone because my friends don't like spending the money to see the ones I want to see.

8. What in your opinion is the difference in watching a horror film in a cinema and watching a horror film at home?

Watching a movie in the theatre is a better experience in my opinion. The screen is huge, the sound is amazing, and also the reaction from the crowd around you is always a great feel that is not duplicated at home.

9. Do you find that you react more or differently to scenes of real violence (for example news footage)?

Of course I react differently. Movies are just that, movies. They are fictional and fantasy but real violence is also just that, real. I get very squeamish and disturbed by real blood and real violence.

10. How do you find that you react differently to these “real” scenes of violence in comparison to staged violence?

Movies are enjoyable because you know it's fake and they are just actors and actresses putting on a show. Real violence deals with real people and it's just sad to see or hear about.
