No need for spoiler warnings. I stated that if you havent seen the film you shouldn't read the thread

thats got nothing to do with morals or ethics - it has to do with chosing how you want to die (quick and painlessly - or the torture of being eaten alive or used as a living breeding ground for spiders.

(all of them - but the child - were in agreement - the father was making a huge sacrifice.

mind you - personally i would have waited until the last possible second ..

but even then ..

although it is nothing more than a goofy horror movie - it did make me ask myself the question - under any circumstances - could i do it - even if it seemed like 100% the right choice ?

dont know if i could.

That is a moral choice... albeit a fucked up one

He definitely kept his word, although I don't think his boy imagined he'd be getting a spot of euthanasia in response to the promise he made his father make.

I agree with urgeok2. The father was making a huge sacrifice for the group but he didn't give his son much of a choice.

Brilliant film.

The best designed monster that you get a good look at was the beast with four wings. The spiders were pretty scary, but based on a spider. seen that done a million times. the other two big ones were impressive, would love to have a proper look at the massive praying mantis!

Best scene is near the end, shot from outside the car when you see the flashes of the gun going off. Fantastic. A close second is when the huge monster walks past them.

I guess he kept his promise though...unless of course him doing that, when he didn't "have to", made him in fact a monster...?
Personally I thought they could've held out a little longer, or attempted an escape...I mean, they did all that other shit...

I liked the movie though, good atmosphere.
Probably one of the best "horror" films I've seen in some time.

Fuck it, I'll take it one step further. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

Did you notice at the end, after he kills everybody in the car, how the mist mysteriously goes away a minute later? They've been driving for hours, and then they stop, he does his awful deed, and then gets out of the car, and BOOM, no more mist. I think there's something intentional there, almost as if the mist was waiting for him to fuck up, like the mist was following him and torturing him, only to say "Surprise! I'm gone!" after he did what he did. That's how I interpret it, anyway... like the mist has a mind of its own.

Maybe the title "The Mist" could be interpreted as "The Missed" as well, since its about missed opportunities for survival, or missed opportunities for saving someone / living.

Possible humorous endings:

The camera shows the car from the outside like when Drayton was about to shoot everyone... Then we hear the bullets fire. Silence. We then see Drayton holding the gun, still pointed to the ground, everyone alive and he says, "We can't do that! We've come so far! We have to keep fighting and trying! We can start life over! Nothing is ever hopeless... We can do this! We have to fight! We'll survive! I promise you that we'll surv..."

I thought it was one of the best Stephen King adaptations to date. I felt as though I had seen the movie since it played out very similarily to how the book played out in my head :D

The scariest monster was of course the zealotry within the grocery store and that scared me more than anything else.

The ending killed me (and them). I'm more of a fight to your very last breath type of person, however, they obviously made the decision for him.

Great movie.

It's nice to think, that in an emergancy situation people would just break down, turn on each other and speed up their own demise.
