I find when I cant get to sleep that the worse thing I can do is fight it! I accept that the mind is running on overkill/drive, get out of bed and do something I would normally do in the day like watch tv. Make a nice, warm milky drink and chill out.
Or I wrap myself in something warm and do some star-gazing for a while - anything that stops me from fighting the frustration of not being able to sleep. I find that within an hour I am ready to shut my eyes. And even then, if I still cant sleep, I will cosy up in bed with a good book and again, just chill. Sometimes, just laying in bed, taking in long, slow deep breaths and even longer exhales tends to help me drift off. Fighting insomnia doesnt work.

well here it is again.. every morning at this hour 'just after midnight' out of nowhere...em wide awake. I lay down at 8.30..up again at 9.. fall asleep around 9.35 ..up again now.. 'bugger'

Man I hate not going to sleep. Takes me forever everynight to go to sleep. Once in a blue moon, I can not sleep for anything, but I just lay there with my eyes closed for the most part, & just get some rest. Try that. It's not sleep, but it's something. And then the next day I don't feel like a zombie.
