Back in their release days, The Evil Dead and The Thing were pretty gory as a theater watch. The effects may be dated now but the feel still remains.

Coming to more modern times, Final Destination had some pretty gorific moments. The first death in the bathroom had me squirming in my seat. To be shot with a movie camera, it was pretty damn grisly and too close to being realistic.

Most horrific that I personally saw in the theater would have to be Candyman.

Agreed. As many gory and violent films Ive seen, thats the only seen the really made me squirm.

I can't say that I agree with everyone's lists...The Amityville Horror (1979) scared me senseless. It's the best. I think Candyman deserves a spot at the top, too. As for Blair Witch, I think I could have done a better job with my own camcorder. It bored me silly.

The Blair Witch Project(1999) gave me nightmares for at least a week after i saw it.

I remember seeing Hellraiser at the theater when it came out and that blew me away.
