For those of you who watched it, does any of the technology excite you? I have never seen that level of detail before. They had 2 programmers dedicated for a year developing the water for the game, so rather than simply a semi-static backdrop that you can "drown" in, it is actually a dynamic, fluid part of the environment. watch how it flows over one of the "Big Daddies" as it walks under a waterfall (none of the scenes are scripted, they are actual gameplay) and the water actually pours over it.

Another thing that blew me away was the drill going through the player's hand. It is way beyond the prefabbed animations that games usually employ and seemed completely on the fly. If you have the patience to sit through the long one, listen to the narration, the guy really knows what he is talking about.

As a programmer, and as one who has been doing some video game research, this game is incredibly exciting. DirectX 10 is amazing and is going to redefine how games are made, so take your pick, get an Xbox 360, or a new computer.

I would need a $1,500 computer to run that. Its bad enough I had to go out and get a new 360 last night [ only bought the core system because I already have the hard drive and I made sure to spend an extra $40 on the Best Buy two yr. warranty...if ANYTHING happens to it they will trade it out for a new one.]

Nice. I usually am a hardcore anti-console person, but i think Irrational deserves to get as much exposure as they can, and given that my carreer is built around their products, i have a soft spot for the Evil Empire (aka Microsoft).

Hey, the bad guys are always cooler anyway, right?

I seriously wish i had the money to get in on the ground floor for Windows Vista with a nice beefy system... the new OS is amazing, and i think Bioshock is going to end up being a more or less "Vista" game for pcs. The new os comes with directx 10, so you need hardware capable of running it to use the cool features it adds anyway.

I am due for a new comp.....and I am waiting for the new OS. Perhaps when the income tax refund comes in. [ although the wife wants a new bathroom floor ]:(

not much chance in winning that debate.

I would gladly sacrifice a new pc for NOT having to have a godamn thing to do with installing a new floor. I have done it 3 times (once ceramic tile.. uch) in the pas year and a half and i NEVER want to do it again. i feel for you. Spend the cash, get a pro to do it, drool from affar for a while.

I wont get a new pc until long after Bree has a new one. Mine is custom built (by me) 3 years ago, while hers was bought for her by her deadbeat father 6 years ago as a "can i kiss your ass now and have a father daughter thing, even though i havent been around for your life, ever" gift. its held up remarkably well (a good mark for Gateway), but is showing its age now. She will probably get a laptop, especially since we have anice shiny new wireless router these days.

I may be able to convince her to let me drop some cash on a hardware updgrade... a new motherboard, video card and processor should do me well. not to mention a retail copy of vista... should only set me back ....

$1500 at the beginning of the year... Maybe not....

A nice update to this one:
in the not too distant future, we will be buying ME a nice new dell desktop (XPS), and a second video card, and a copy of windows media edition. I get the new comp and the second video card, and i reformat my current computer with Media edition for my wife. everyone wins :)

Bioshock looks great. When is it coming out? Have you read anything about "Alan Wake" yet?
