I guess I have to spell it out for some people. I thought it was clear that I think the first one is extremely better. and the reason? "Halloween 2 just took what people liked about the first one and exaggerated it."
I did clearly state that I like Halloween 3 better than 2.

The first Halloween is the best because it was an original idea and it was fresh. Halloween 2 is okay but the first one is always the best.

Halloween 1 is better overrall, but the gore in part 2 is better than part 1.
In Friday the 13th... I like part 2 better than part 1.

Nothing will ever surpass the original. But number two also kicks ass.

First one was the original, the classic, the template for so many of the inferior slasher fests that followed. Straight-serious and well made and beautiful, on a tiny budget. An achievement.
Part 2 was a really decent sequel with lots of atmosphere (and several million dollars). I enjoyed it, especially in the theatres. After the success of the first film, it was easier to make this one look good because the money was there. I liked "Halloween 3" also, but I'm a sucker for Nigel Kneale. It's rather a silly movie (and of course has nothing to do with the rest of the series!), but it's weird as hell and strangely appealing, with its own distinct atmosphere. It also gets points for having a "freakout" ending with Tom Atkins screaming "Stop It!" over and over again. Fun fun fun! |

The first one is a classic..the second one isnt....The problem with the second one is that nearly the hole movie is at one location ...The hospital..thats a little boring...but a decent sequel....I like "Halloween 4" better.

Well, my opinion can't be taken too seriously, as I realized while I was watching "The X from Outer Space" featuring the space-chicken monster "GUILALA" (pronounced either "goo-lala" or "gee-lala").
There are films a person likes because they're good, and there are films a person likes because they're "fun"... |

Good thread.
My vote is on Halloween the orginal, but i would happily watch the other one directly after, its gotta be done. But what you have pushed me onto here is Halloween Resurrection. OH MY GOD i hated that movie. To kill off the Scream Queen was its first mistake and from then on they took Carpenters fantastic creation of the boogieman and turned him into a popular 'hip' character totally loosing the fear factor, very much similar to the fate of Freddy. You cannot have micheal without laurie strode i dont see how they could ever think of it. Come on whos with me on the CRAP they make these days!!! well not so much these days so much but a few years ago. Come on lets have you out!! |
