not to play the devils advocate but it's not always the case with music either..

Bands that 'make it' often gain creative control later on and are able to make the music the way they intended.

Also many bands mature ... their earlier works are more raw but their less skilled.

Especially bands you folowed from the beginnings .. they'll put a couple of albums out independantly, then via a studio and then if their lucky they can grow big enough to produce themselves.

The biggest difference you usually see with a band is when you see them live before they are signed .. they are full of energy .. they're hungry... they're rocking, and then all of that gets hammered right out of them in the studio.

all of this has fuck all to do with sequels but i'm senile and my mind wanders.

i just peed my pants.

I didn't say that all bands were that way. But almost all of the bands I like, I like their earlier stuff more than their later stuff. Of course, I like things that are more "raw" than things that are polished.

Yes, bands tend to get a more"pop" style with a first hit record.

i think the first ones allways seem better cause the first time you see/ do anything is always the one that you'll remember. ya know like first kiss, first time ya hold a girls hand, first time ya have sex. etc is always better. well its the one you most remember. well that and the last one.but lets not nit pick i think the second, third fourth etc etc. doesnt seem as great cause it isnt all new and exciting . there your problem is solved thanks to dr. wu

Well, imo Final Destination 2 was better than the original, and hellraiser 2 was also better than the original
