If we're talking Price then you have to say Witchfinder General and House Of Wax as well.

Assuming you don't wanna throw the kid right into the deep end of horror, here's some...not all horror, but each respectively scary in parts.
*The Frighteners
*The neverending story 1
*The Lost Boys
*Creepshow 1 & 2
*Lady In Red
*Paper House

None of those should scar him for life...
These are not in order, as the order would vary from person to person.
Bear in mind he IS only 13, and some of the movies (although good) mentioned in previous lists could land the "renter/buyer" in a little trouble if mentioned in passing to the wrong person.
Keep it relatively simple, eg : No R18'S until the kid is at least 15.

First, go with some movies with lots of tension, but not necessarily outright scariness. Something like Straw Dogs would work nicely. It's more or less in the same proverbial boat as Last House on the Left, only not as horror. Last House or Wait Until Dark would both make a good alternate.

Then go with mindless gore that isn't scary. Seven Doors of Death fits. They're not mindless, but Suicide Circle or Dawn of the Dead (70's) would work, too.

Then go with something that's scary and has both tension and gore. Se7en isn't particularly SCARY, although "sloth" has a good jump moment in it, and it's got tension and some good gore in it. Not a lot, but it uses it well.

Then go with the "they get scarier and scarier" stuff. First I'd go with either Kaïro (if you can get a copy) or Evil Dead.

Then go with Halloween.

If you're going with culture, insert Psycho, Night of the Hunter, M, or The Wicker Man wherever.

The Monster Squad
Gremlins
Leprechaun
Jack Frost
Waxwork

Trust me, I'm not mocking you with these picks. But I think when you "break someone in" I think you should show them that some horror can be fun.

If they want to branch out farther into something that will actually be more scary, then you can go with the classics

Psycho
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Halloween
Friday the 13th
A Nightmare on Elm St.

I would say -

1) Poleregiest - alot of suggested gore, no one actually dies - Good intro to horror\suspence.
2) Aliens - To introduce him into the creature side of movies in general. I would class it as a watered down horror movie.
3)Childs play - Quite tame compared to some of todays horror movies. He should be ok with it.
4)Scream - Alot of suspense. Not too brutal.
5)Wrong Turn - A pretty scary movie (i think). A little more graphic than the others.

What do you guys think?

Well, I definatly would not go with Cannibal Holocost for a thirteen year old.. Wow, that's a bit too much .. even for some adults..

You can start with

Dead Alive (It's fun and silly and some horror is just that.. Lots of gore, but it's so obviously fake and silly)

Halloween the Original (very suspensful, limited gore, but there are sex scenes, so that's your call)

Friday the 13th. Same as above. Sex.

Pyscho

Near Dark.
