I haven't read the book, but the movie is awesome. The movie managed to captured every aspect of what it means to live in shadow and longing. I found it to be extremely emotionally charged, and I even found myself sobbing a couple of times.

Grade: A
The book is one of my all time favorites. It's hard to believe that a white man wrote such a convincing story about geishas. It makes the movie less entertaining, though, because of course they butchered the story in Hollywood.

I watched Lethal Weapon 2 last night. I loved the movie, but I have to admit, Mel Gibson is starting to creep me out. Ranting about Jewish people while being arrested for driving drunk gives a whole new light to The Passion Of the Christ for me. Now I will never watch it. Although I will probably go see Apocalypto, because I saw the trailer months ago and it looked either really good or really awful. In any case, I'm too interested not to.

It isn't anti semitic if that's what you mean. It's pretty damn disturbing though.

I'm glad you said that. I really hate letting outside influences taint my opinion of things before I've seen them.
I would mainly be worried about my opinion of Mel Gibson ruining the movie, because then you start looking for bigotry, whether it's present or not.

I absolutely agree with Austin. I didn't see anything anti-Semitic in it at all. But it is definitely a thought provoking movie.

it isn't that the movie is bad... its actually directed, acted, shot, etc. quite well. what makes it a bad flick (for me at least) is that it focuses on the graphic crucifixion process the ENTIRE movie. i think i said in another thread that this was a vehicle to guilt trip christians into blind faith and that it smothers jesus's message to his people (something like that). so the movie is definitely worth a rent, but be wary about its creator's intentions.

on a side note, i can't wait 'till they release the audio of gibson's arrest on the internet (fucking prick)! :D

Watched Batman '89 last night.

This is, IMO, tied with the first X-Men as the greatest superhero film EVER. Nicholson as the Joker is the ultimate villain. Burton made Gotham look amazing. A nearly flawless movie.

Just my opinion, but I don't think that's the case at all.
