My previous place of employment makes me go WTF.

...

So. For the past 2 weeks, 3 different people from my previous company have gone out of their way to pursue me to apply for a job on their team (I had just left the company 7 months ago because there were no promotions available and I needed to grow professionally - and get a raise).

Ok.

Now, my current job makes me happy. It pays a lot and it's challenging, so the idea of going back to my previous employer... Gives me pause.

But. The previous company continued to pursue (including a LUNCH MEETING with the Hiring Manager of that team who said that I WAS A FRONT RUNNER for the job, that they did NOT want to hire outside the company and preferred someone with experience with this company, not to mention this job would come with a 15K/year raise and business travel to Prague).

Ok. Excellent.

A week ago I applied for the job.

This Wednesday (4/9) I LIED TO MY MANAGER and told them I had a doctor's appointment so that I could attend AN HOUR AND A HALF LONG INTERVIEW which was grueling and stressful. I got LOTS of positive feedback (I had worked with the interviewers and they were "impressed" with the professional growth I had accrued over the past 7 months).

TODAY I got a call from the HR rep who told me... THEY WANT TO GO WITH THE OUTSIDE HIRE.

SO.

After being ASKED TO APPLY. After being TOLD I WAS THE FRONT-RUNNER. After being TOLD THAT THEY WANTED SOMEONE WITH PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE. They hired someone else.

That was an absolute unnecessary blow to the ego.

WTF?!

DIE IN A FIRE.

That's what you get for lying.

Seriously though, there was a reason you quit the first time as you said and I'm sure that eventually another reason would have popped up. Sounds like you should just stay away from that place. I'm sure the cliche brigade will be battering my door down for saying this but it's probably for the best.

You're right, though. I mean, it was shit like this that made me leave in the first place. Honestly. Their hiring practices - Pretty fucked up. And I am happy where I am.

But the ego blow... Just... Not... Necessary.

this made me go WTF this morning - and i had a good laugh.

It was a soundbite on the radio from one of the hockey players in the Montreal game last night. (not intended to be funny - in fact i dont think anyone picked up on this)

It was a guy who scored a goal and had an assist - he was talking about the atmosphere in the arena .

(i'm paraphrasing the first part - cant remember every word)

"the crowd was very excited, making lots of noise. They were so loud we couldn't hear each other think"

so what - when the crowd isn't loud the Montreal Canadians have the ability to read each others minds ?

a telepathic NHL team ?

Haha, I like that. It's a wonder they don't pass better though.
