chronological order of movies

Has anyone ever figured out why that TV networks will show movies and their sequels back to back but RARELY is it in chronological order??? How much sense does that make?

For instance I have seen them show, on the SCI-FI channel, all of the original Planet of the Apes movies back to back a few years ago for an anniversary special. They showed a Planet of the Apes-Behind the scenes special first, then Planet of the Apes. So far, so Good. Then they just threw the other ones in, one after another in no specific order. What idiot(s) decided to do this?

I've seen the same thing happen with the Friday the 13th., Holloween, Rambo, Missing in Action, Rocky, Star Trek and Hellraiser movies/sequels as well. Any thoughts?

it's all to do with the ratings war between different channels, they want to rake in more viewers than another channel....

...so if they're showing, as an example for arguments sake, a James Bond film in order every Saturday from early ones to the latest, they show a few in the correct order, then the Head of Programmes decides that one of their rival channels is chucking out better films, so he decides to skip loads of old Bond films, and head straight for the latest ones with Brosnan... just so his channel grabs the attention from his rival. This could be the same for many other sequals back to back etc. They don't give a fuck about the viewers really, since they know big budget films will win them over and they'll watch it anyway, even if some have been missed out.

The same can be said with repeats of films, the guys in charge know exactly what other rival channels are going to be showing several weeks in advanced, so they alter their schedules to compete... even if it means showing the latest or best film out 20 times.
