Hammer Vs Amicus
Not sure if this should go in this section? I'll stick it here anyway.
I was watching a few of the old classics: Blood on Satan's claw, Dr Terror's house of horrors, The Satanic rites of dracula, the house that dripped blood, The monster club, The vampire lovers etc... Which company do you think made better movies - Amicus or Hammer? I prefer Amicus, but I still like tons of hammer stuff. (Blood on satan's claw is by Tigon I think, but I wouldn't call Tigon a great production company!) |

I think Amicus and Hammer both made some great films.
Amicus seems to be most remembered for its anthology films, although it made some fine films that were not anthologies. For example, And Now the Screaming Starts and I, Monster. For pure volume, Hammer obviously wins. Much of their best work, however was based on classic gothic stories (or at least characters from those stories) whereas Amicus tended to be a bit more original with their productions. Amicus films tend to have a slightly darker atmosphere to them than most Hammer films (although that could just be my perception). |

I feel really bad about this, but I am rather unfamiliar with the Amicus library.
I love the Hammer films, grew up watching them on weekend creature-features and own many DVDs, but the Amicus releases weren't played as often over here (at least not to my memory - I could be way off base here) and I've hed no exposure to them What are your favorite Amicus titles? I'd like to see a couple of them.

The house that dripped blood
Dr Terror's house of horror Tales from the crypt Asylum You can't go far wrong with these titles. I am a big fan of anthology movies, perhaps this is why I prefer Amicus to Hammer (or is that blasphemy???) I haven't seen And now the screaming starts. Heard it was really good. |
