For young fans imo it's just as harmless as santa claus or the tooth fairy. After you reach a certain age you'll realize it's staged and can still enjoy watching storylines unfold. The outcome of the match is predetermined but the action is real and you don't know who's going to win(although the last handful of years have been pretty predictable).

Fair enough, still seems very odd though how many children are actually fooled (most aren't as daft as they look) - and how confusing and disappointing it must be when the truth dawns.
Faces of Death lost its menace when I became old enough to discover most of the scenes were staged - though this did open up new thoughts on how to manipulate certain audiences.

You're right, I'm sure it's disappointing for some to find out your hero is improvising from a plot outline but I also don't think it's something that would be dwelled on for long. Going back to what I said before about Santa for example, that's probably alot worse to find out about because after they find that out it's over. On the other hand the wrestlers/characters are still there and while it most likely wont be as exciting it can still be enjoyable.

Same here if they wanted John Cena to have a match they could have had him go up against some one else. Randy Orton didnt care about Eddie all he cares about is his self. The rest of the show was good except that match

Anyways, can we possibly move the discussion on the merits of wrestling being less than honest to one of the other wrestling threads? EDIT: I would've suggested I go into the thread about Akkad and talk about how most of the Halloween movies weren't any good anyways, but then I went in there and found this: Quote:

There are more wrestling threads?
Speculation is all you may have about the rumour of rigged boxing matches (save for a handful that may have been "proved" by the media?) - wrestling however is sold as "real" battling when it is in fact universally, blatantly "false". It is impossible to take such a strange hybrid of entertainment - bouts of fighting with "rules" and acting - seriously when there is no tension (apart from dramatic), meaning or winners/losers... instead there is a script and a bunch of oddball steroid-munchers. You say you were going to go to Moustapha Akkad's RIP thread and condemn his work? Bloody disrespectful, that.

The majority of people that DO follow it beyond a certain age will not try and step up claiming how undisputedly real every aspect of wrestling is, yet, as some have even said in this thread, they watch to see the storylines and events unfold, predetermined as they may be. When I watch wrestling, whether or not it's ACTUALLY people getting the shit knocked out of them does not enter my mind...it's theatrical, yes...but I do appreciate the skill and stamina it must take for these guys to do what they do, even if it is essentially watching something vaugely comparable to stuntmen. PERFORMANCE wrestling. Sports ENTERTAINMENT. Seems those that watch it find these things an easier concept to grasp than you do. What you're saying isn't exactly groundbreaking news, you're not clearing up any long standing questions here, in fact, all you are doing is being disrespectful to fans of a great long time entertainer, performer, actor....Then again, this is no news to US, your regular routine around here is to gather attention through attempted infamy...you're not funny, you're not witty, you're just a dick - So keep the avatar, seems that, you've already acknolwedged the truth of the matter. Oh...and Sam, Austin, Trippin'...We got the show you're referring to just yeaterday (slight delay here), and even for an "only sometimes" watcher, it was difficult to sit through...the montage of his life was nicely done even for the space of time they managed to push it into, some heartfelt quotes about his skill, and determination, you could see how many true friends the guy actually had, even his latest "enemies" couldn't contain themselves. You're right, overall it was a good show. One thing...was Chris Benoit a close personal friend of Eddies? He sure seemed to be taking it harder than anyone else... No doubt this has the entire industry shaken, it is truly a shame. - B

he and Eddie were way close. They've known each other since '94 or '95 when they were wrestling in Japan

Please tell me you're not naive enough to believe that a boxing match has never been fixed.
