The Exorcist has a bigger impact when watched on the big screen with all the creepy as fuck surround sound. I didn't think it was scary till I saw it in the theatre when the released the new version.

[REC] had a few jump outta your seat moments (the ending is classic horror cinema) and The Grudge was creepy too.

I didn't find the first TCM to be scary at all. It was more exploitative than anything else, but I didn't find it scary.

That's a good point with the Exorcist... I think part of my problem is that I saw it and had HUGE expectations hearing about HOW HORRIFYING it was...

[REC] I've heard is pretty goddamn amazing, though I still need to see it...

And I second Elvis with The Grudge (personally I thought that the remake was better than the original)... Forgot to mention that it scared the HELL out of me when I saw it for the first time... Truth be told, I was living by myself and it kept me up all night. :o

Another foreign film with a few good scares is Shutter (the original)... It's a derivative Asian ghost story, but a really really GOOD derivation. Definitely worth a watch.

In the remake of The Grudge my favorite scene was with Ted Raimi and the jaw. I was just amazed at the work behind that. I was never realy scared in that film but it gave off some great jump tactics in the theatre that I was working at.

I like [REC] and I may be wierd on this but I loved Session 9 it's not Japanese or even foriegn in any way, but I thought it was well done and it creep me out a bit.

Yep - Session 9. Definitely creepy. Quite possibly my favorite indie horror flick.

I just saw Session 9 a few weeks ago. I loved it. Fantastic movie :)

As for The Exorcist, it was hard to find it scary after reading the book first. The book was much better than the movie, which is typically how it goes.

My mom read the book back in the day and said it was way scarier than the movie, but she also said that in the seventies it was one of the scariest movies anybody has ever seen and people left the theatres crying. I've seen it and like it alot but I don't think it is that scary. It's just a great movie.
