Curse of the Cat People (1944)

Mediocre sequel to a perfect horror classic.

Masters of Horror: Imprint

This is actually my first exposure to Miike's work...it wasnt bad, but I was hoping for a better first impression.

I had no problem with the pacing or the fact that it was in english (two things Ive heared people complain about), but I didnt like the way it ws presented. Lots of it seemed utterly pointless...I dont want to spoil anything, but it really has a "twists-for-twists-sake" mentality in places. Huge chunks of narrative are shown to be completly needless if not just to set up a twist.

It was well made and well directed, but it really could have been alot shorter.

***Spoiler***

Ok so I didnt want to spoil anything...but was I the only one that was reminded of some twisted cross between Oldboy and Basket Case near the end?

I thought High Tension was fuckin' AWESOME all the way up until they revealed their completely unneccesary "twist" that, in my eyes, punched so many holes in the movie that the entire movie just sank because of it. They shoulda left out the twist and then we'd just be left with 1 bad ass pure slasher film.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

This is a PG rated Disney horror film so my expectations weren't real high, yet I was still let down by this boring piece of crap. The acting was fine but like I said, the movie was just boring. The plot, villain and circumstances were not enough to keep me interested whatsoever.

The weekend line up: City of Ghosts, V for Vendetta, A Tale of Two Sisters, Jersey Girl

Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep

Well, this was a Sci-Fi original, but it wasn't terrible. The acting was acceptable. Nothing Oscar worthy, but not embarrassing either. The story was decent for a made for tv script and there was a bit more gore than you might expect for a tv movie as well, but if you watch a lot of Sci-Fi originals, then perhaps not because they generally tend to get as much gore as they can in there. I'm not sure if it's the cheesiness of it all or the fact that I was watching it knowing Roderick Usher had penned the first couple drafts, but I was pretty entertained by it.

i remember being let down when i saw this as the Ray Bradbury book is my favorite of all time. 90% of it was left out of the film to simplify things for the average lumpen movie goer.

This is an excellent choice for a movie to be remade.

that being said - jason robards was excellent and its a pity he's not around to be cast in any possible remake.

I thought it was "ok"...although I saw it at age 12 or 13...but,

Agreed there. I've read the book (actually after I saw the film) and it's a far cry from what they put in film...some of the best elements were completely forgotten, it seemed. Why Disney picked it up before any other companies saw it's potential is strange to me...

I wouldn't even call it a remake, the first one was so empty and "pg" that I'd just call a more well done movie more like a REAL adaptation than a remake...if they worked with it properly, they could make it terrifying. Would you want to see it modernised or changed in some way? I think it might not suffer too badly from a few updated elements, but keeping close to the actual story...but yeah, what you'd label it as aside, I would love to see another, fuller film.

Any good? I've picked it up and dropped it at the video shop numerous times, as it looks like complete trash...is it worth a weekly hire?
