Mean Creek (2004). This wonderfully simple coming of age flick takes a typical day of childhood shenaniganry and makes it so much more. The grounded realism of this flick houses its thunder, with scenes that eschew cinematic ploys, instead meandering in it own brilliant fashion. The child actors all earn their due accolades; they simply owned this flick. Director Jacob Aaron Estes' debut, which he also wrote, also deserves much encomium. From the random but necessary closeups to the wondrous shots of nature at her finest, the camera points in all the right places. And where this film's capacity to entertain turns black, its only because its driving force has taken a back alley left unexplored by the typical Hollywood set, where prudence takes its cues from the scent of currency ink.

Inception

The human subconscious/dreaming mind has been examined in many films before, and while Inception does inevitably tread some familiar paths and does invite comparison to other similar themed genre movies,it does at least have some ideas of its own which allow the storyline to retain some freshness.
Visually the film is extremely impressive, containing several scenes that are truly spectacular.

8/10

Toy Story 3: Awesome, awesome movie. It's a pretty tall order to top the first two movies, but I think this one does. Visually it's amazing as would be expected from Pixar. I really liked just how dark this movie was. Still light-hearted enough for kids, but it is easily the most serious out of the three.

Scoot Pilgrim vs. the World: Visually stunning and pretty damn hilarious. Although I think it would be a far better movie to someone who has read the comics. I liked it, but sometimes it just got way too stupid.

Dead Silence (2007). When James Wan and Company decided to make a flick that paid homage to the horror genre, they went to it with the exertions of funding a third world nation. The result is a wildly pleasant terror fest. With enough gore to please the eye, Dead Silence achieves its ends by way of creepy atmosphere, with brutal eye candy used with occasional flair as opposed to the whole enchilada. The story was rich enough, including all of the necessary touchstones of horror, random dolls, lightening, crawl spaces and the like. The lighting and use of shadow was incredible and it shows. The direction- competent as expected. Even the cinematography worked to great effect to create the feel of a classic horror flick. The sound, as hinted by its titular intimations, was perfectly utilized to throw down the red carpet for evil's inevitable approach. And where all the requisite features of great horror can come crashing down by pitiful acting, no such party pooper is to be found here. The acting was solid and even punctuated with perfectly timed humor by way of Donnie Wahlberg, cynical detective undaunted by performing some of his own stunts. In all, Dead Silence is the type of chilling horror flick that one could only hope to inspire the genre to emulate. Merci beaucoup.

The Fly (1986)

As a Cronenberg film it's one of his greatest, no doubt about that but still whenever someone recall this title the first thing that comes to my mind is Andre's big sweet Fly-Face!

Repo Men.
Have not seen/read anything else it's based on...though from my perspective I quite liked it. Nice futuristic scenario, funny while dark, few mindfucks here and there and some very nice, bloody action scenes.
I enjoyed it, can't really see why it gets the hate it does.
