What's up with all the stupid political posts on the horror board?

And what's up with a Republican horror fan? Isn't that impossible? Republicans are the type of people who think I'm a freak for having geen hair (yes, I do) and wearing eyeliner. Since the beginning, horror has been the home of gays (James Whale, Clive Barker, MG Lewis, to name just a few), atheists (Mary Shelley, Lovecraft), punks, and misfits. Isn't horror the literary and film equilant of punk rock? As Skipp and Spector once said over a decade ago, horror is the genre to get laid to and piss off your parents. Corporate America doesn't get it and never will. Don't preach to me and I won't preach to you. I might offend you and piss you off--but that's what horror is supposed to do.

I was making a point. And my post isn't political. It's angry. There's a difference. People who don't have Airforce One in their DVD collections will probably get my point.

I get your point Dr. K, but Im the opposite of you appearance-wise and I love horror as much as anyone else here. Stereotypes are the devils workshop

I just used appearance as an example. I think all true horror fans are misfits in one way or another, no matter what color your hair is (I personally like to piss off squares). By being misfits, we see the pathos in the Wolf Man, Dracula, etc. We would never discriminate against someone because of the color of their skin or what gender they choose to warm the other side of their bed.

Airforce One was a gift and what the fuck does that have to do with anything?

I'm aware of the difference between 'political' and 'angry'. I am also well aware that the two often go hand in hand. You may have been making a point, but at the same time you were knocking Republicans. That makes your post at least semi-poilitcal.

I tend to lean to the Republican side of most issues and I like horror movies and punk rock. Your broad generalizations are just that, generalizations.

I think that it's more of a generation thing than a political party thing in regards to who looks at you funny with green hair. I'd be willing to wager that the average 60 year old, regardless of political affiliation, would raise an eyebrow to someone with green hair, whereas the average 20 year old, regardless of political affiliation, wouldn't.

I have always liked you, Dr.K, and I have been impressed with your extensive knowledge of horror related topics...To be perfectly honest, I am quite surprised to see you, of all people, perpetuating a stereotype of ANY kind...As for being a misfit, or going against what is considered mainstream, wouldn't those who do NOT fit your perception of the typical Republican be even MORE outside of the mainstream?...Bwind (just ONE example), DEFINITELY doesn't fit the profile of the "typical" Republican...People of all races, creeds, religions, gender, sexual orientation, OR Political Affiliation love horror...That isn't because horror is "anti-establishment"...It's because horror is the shit:cool:...I have always believed that a love of horror, is usually associated more with people who are blessed with an abundance of creativity, intelligence, a desire for something "different", and a bit of insanity (which is always cool)...You don't have to be a member of any particular political party to possess these attributes.

BTW...Any comment that includes the words "Republican" or "Democrat" is generally considered to be somewhat political

Here is a picture of 2 "Republicans" that I happen to know personally QUITE well...They are HEAVY into metal...AND HORROR...I also see a bit of green hair and eyeliner (on BOTH of them)...They also love to be considered "misfits", but I do believe that "freaks" is their preferred term, if they must be labeled at all...Above all else, they would detest being considered "normal"...Doesn't the fact that they ARE Republicans, make them even MORE atypical than that which you have described?

Don't be angry...There is more than enough horror to go around, for ALL of us;)
