Going to see The Village?

My wife and I, and a few of her employees, are planning on going to see The Village tonight. I just thought I'd list a couple of my hopes and fears here:

Hopes: 1. It's scary. Shyamalan, for all he's worth, is actually pretty good at building atmosphere and tension. 2. It's good. And by this I mean acting, storyline, setting, cinematography, that sort of thing. A movie can be easily ruined if any one of these things are horrible.

That's it for the hopes.... which I pretty much have for any horror movie I go to see.

Fears: 1. Well ... the opposite of the above. It's not scary and bad. That's my biggest fear. 2. It will turn into another Signs with a preachy message about faith. That would really piss me off. 3. It will be anticlimactic. After The Sixth Sense, Shyamalan has tried to make his endings exciting. But they have sucked. Unbreakable and Signs both should have ended differently. Particularly Signs. That fuckin' rubber alien was a big pussy. Man. That sucked. The Village better not suck! Thankfully, the theater manager is going to get us a deal on tickets. Yay!

Ive read alot of mixed reviews for this movie, the majority being good. Those who gave it bad reviews are notorious for ripping up movies and are the same people that praised the likes of Moulon Rouge *choke puke choke puke*

Another excellent movie if you like this type of flick *not horror* is The Bourne Supremacy. very good sequal to the The Bourne Identity and well worth the watch if you are into the action flicks.
Might want to pack a set of ear plugs though *dont worry you will still hear the movie, but the theater I was in had it so loud I think I need to see a chiropractor from the reverberation lol*

I enjoy all the of Shymalan movies for different reasons, and I do agree that at times in his movies the suck factor can get pretty high, but I do think that he is quickly becomming the Hitchcock of our time with his excellent story telling abilities.

Actually, "action" is probably the only genre I cannot stand (next to romance). I have yet to see an action movie that I enjoyed. I tried watching The Bourne Identity, but I just couldn't get through it.

I hate loud movies, too. When I went to see Resident Evil, I felt like I was raped. It really sucked. :(

I'm going to check the reviews, too. I like to use RottenTomatoes.com. It seems that their patented "Tomato Meter" really reflects my feelings on the movies I see.

I fully intend to see this...But, not until it is available for sale, as I am a cheapskate;)

I have heard good and bad things about it...The previews looked pretty kickass to me, though (of course, they are SUPPOSED to)

I'm going to see this tonight too. As Je Suis mentioned, the movie received mixed reviews. Honestly, even if a movie has a terrible review, if I want to see it- I'll go see it. It's only opinion after all...

I guess we'll have some reviews of our own tomorrow.

I don't even bother with reviews, as 90% of the time I disagree with the reviewer.

Yeah I definitely want to see this, although I think it is going to have a 'christian' element to it, the red streaks on the doors (seen from trailers) remind me of the sheep blood people were suppose to paint on their door to keep the angel of death from taking their first born children...but i'm probably reading too much into it...

I think this film will be better than Signs...but i'm not really a fan of M. Night Shylaman

Just listen to this sentence and tell me what it means. I haven't seen Evil Dead II yet? Would you get the impression that i wanted to see it? Oh, well you couldn't have been dying to see it or else you would have already gone. So in your opinion would I definitely see it?
How the fuck should I know probably!
Why? Because it's a brilliant film, it's so funny, and the soundtrack kicks fucking ass!

dont really know much about this film, but just had a look on imdb and the plot definitely sounds interesting, I normally avoid what other comments people leave and tend to make my own judgements after i've seen it.

I usually dont trust critics, but Mr. Ebert and I seem to have the same tastes most of the time, and he totally hated the Village. (his review was really funny actually...) I'll still see it if a big group of friends wants to go, but I wont waste $7.50 on it when I can rent it for free.
