Sometimes you have to eat your own words!
I'd like to think of myself as someone who isn't easily influenced by what "everyone else" thinks... I like to form my own opinion about a movie.
Buuut... sometimes, I do get influenced, and I can be a bit stubborn at times. I remember very long ago on this forum, the seemingly very unpopular Lords of Salem came up in a debate, and some of you came to it's defence. I was one of those stubborn people who wasn't even interested in giving it a fair chance, because after all, "everyone hates it", and normally I am not a very big fan of Rob Zombies movies. Well... I was finally convinced to give it a try, so I rented it. And wow... am I glad I did! It is nothing less than one of the best modern horror movies I have seen - and believe it or not, it took me hours to fall asleep, and when I finally did, I had nightmares... THAT hasn't happened to me from watching a horror movie since... a very long time ago! I wonder if the reason people hate it so much is because it's a bit "artsy". You probably do have to be one of those people who enjoy the visual side of things, the camera work, a good score etc. I'm sure some will watch it and say "but there's hardly any action!". Well, no, not if "action" means severed body parts, but I wasn't bored for one second. All in all, a movie I kept avoiding for a long time because I expected it to be crap, turned out to be one of the best experiences I've had of watching a horror movie. The first thing I did when the movie was over was to go Online and order a copy of my own for my collection, because I think it's going to rank very high in my list of favourite horror movies from now on. Anyway... maybe this isn't much of a debate. Feel free to debate the movie, or to share your own moments of being completely surprised by a movie. It was just SUCH a positive surprise to me that I had to share ![]() |

Glad you had a horrifying experience. Works in reverse, too. I can think of a couple of films hyped up on HDC recently that turned out to be real disappointments. Use us as a guide not an authority. Get in touch with your own horror emotions and have a feel with what scares you and trust that intuition.

I was never that interested in checking it out after I heard all the negative reviews myself. But now hearing you say it's pretty good I'll have to check it out

It's decent, certainly not the abortion most claim it to be. Hopefully, Rob will carry the visual style of Lords into 31. Doubt he will, though.

I'd like to debate wether or not you were on crack while watching Lords of Salem.

IK never listen to opinions on films. Most people's taste is so abysmal it's terrifying.

I didn't like it because it was too abstract for my taste.
Like Cemetery Man, lot of people like it. I don't. Don't get what's so good about it. But if someone can enjoy it, good for him/her. |

And the reason I picked that movie to compare it to is because Lords of Salem actually did remind me a bit of Suspiria in some ways. Of course - the ONE thing that can't ever really be debated is whether or not a movie is creepy/scary or not, as that depends totally on the person who's watching. But personally, I have rarely been that creeped out by a movie. |
