And as we all know, Elvira got it all from Vampira:

When I was a lad growing up in the midwest we had a local Saturday night Horror movie host named Dr. San Guinary. He was amazing. He was a huge local celebrity.

I love those James Coburn intro's....

Only one I can think of is Freddy Krueger hosting Freddy's Nightmares. But the first horror host to come to mind for me was Roddy McDowall's character in Fright Night.

To me, being a horror host would seem like a lot of fun. Not sure why, but it does. Introducing movies or episodes, stuff like that. Maybe even develop a character haha.

I guess there aren't enough old-timers around here any more to start waxing nostalgic about the legendary horror hosts like Svengooli, Ghoulardi, Zacherle, Morgus the Magnificent and their ilk.

Well, I'm not an old-timer but I grew up watching Son of Svengoolie in Chicago. I absolutely loved it as a kid (I still watch from time to time; he's still on). I also loved Zacherle. I had a bunch of VHS tapes of him, and an autographed portrait too!

I've always really thought it was a shame that horror hosting is a dying thing. It's the ultimate thing to do when you're at home at night, just relax with some popcorn maybe, turn the lights down, and watch an old horror movie with some goofiness in-between. I'd love to see a revival happen.
