George A Romero remaking Deep Red?!

(via Empire Online & Variety)

Looks like George A Romero might take a break from zombies in the near future – Variety reports that the horror icon is looking to tackle a remake of Dario Argento’s Deep Red.

And not just that, but he wants to make the new version in 3D.

Romero is apparently deep into negotiations to direct the new movie based on the 1975 giallo classic, which sees a pianist investigating a serial slaughterer’s spree, only to discover that the killer is seemingly one step ahead at every turn.

It’s not the first time the two have been linked, as Argento collaborated on Day Of The Dead, and they co-directed Two Evil Eyes way back in 1990. But while Dario won’t be directly involved in any way in the new movie, his brother Claudio has written a new script for the film.

Romero plans to start shooting the movie later this year in Canada.

He said in a recent interview that,

a) He hates remakes, he doesn't see the point to it.

b) He would never do anything in 3D.

I will do everything in my power to somehow make it into this movie as an extra. I am continuously happy about Romero's move to Toronto.

Anyway, remakes are okay sometimes. I always watch them just to be sure. 3D though? Why is everything in 3D? Just because Avatar did well? Seems really pointless to me, and to be honest, when a movie is in 3D I will usually skip it.
