New and Independent Silver Surfer

There's a "Silver Surfer" movie in the works but it'll be written by prolific storyteller J. Michael Straczynski.

JMS told a little bit about his plan for the "Surfer"'s second film entry.

"It picks up right where the FF movie left off and it's designed to answer the questions that were asked in the movie but really weren't dealt with there, which [were]: Where did he come from, why did he become the Surfer and what is he doing here now?"

When asked about the handling of Galactus in Rise of the Silver Surfer, Straczynksi replied, "I thought it was all they could do in the course of that movie, but in the second movie, you will see more of him." He went on to say, "You don't want to sort of blow out something that big and massive for one quick shot in the first movie… Where you're showing the origin of the Surfer, that's where you do it; that's where you blow it out."

No comment from anyone yet on whether those rumours about Alex Proyas ("I, Robot") being attached to direct it are true.

But isn't The Silver Surfer one of the bad guys?

Is he good in this new movie?

Don't expect to see a Silver Surfer movie for a while, according to Ninja Assassin scribe J. Michael Straczynski, who was tasked with co-writing the flick.

In an interview with Collider, he said: "What happened was when Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer didn't do as well as they hoped it would do, it caused them to call into question a Silver Surfer movie."

He went on: "The script that I wrote picked up right where FF2 left off. So if they do a Silver Surfer film down the road, it'll have to be its own separate things."

Straczynski's version also said that his version wouldn't have been for the same audience as the child-orientated Fantastic Four movies. "It was definitely adult fare. I wanted to tell the origin of the Surfer and get into that whole thing."
