Early 90s Indie about walking dead
I need some help with an indie that I've been obsessing over for a while. Back in the early 90s, I rented a VHS of a VERY low-budget horror flick. Here's what I remember from the plot:
The world is an alternate reality where people remain conscious after they die. Their bodily functions cease to exist, but they still think and speak, etc, and are not particularly menacing. They're not out to eat anybody's brains or eat flesh. A woman is trying to find her boyfriend and hitches a ride with a military caravan to the town where her boyfriend was last seen. When she eventually finds him, he has died, but again he still speaks to her, etc. The boyfriend extolls the virtues of being dead. He draws a bath for the girlfriend and begins to talk her into comitting suicide so she can see how great it is to be dead. They try to have sex, but having no blood flow, he cannot get an erection. I believe the girl eventually breaks it off with the boyfriend and leaves him. In the town, the dead have basically replaced the homeless. I remember an image of a man sitting on the street with a cardboard sign in front of him that reads "Newly Dead. Please help," holding a tin cup asking for spare change.
That is all I remember. As a writer, this story seems really interesting to me and I've been trying for years to find this flick again. Hopefully, someone else remembers this.
Thanks,
