rFactor

Does anyone here play rFactor?

For those of you who don't know about it, it is a car racing simulator for the PC. It comes with a number of cars and tracks (mostly fantasy) and is geared towards sim racing rather than arcade racing fans.

What really makes it great is that it is very open to modding. There are heaps of cars and tracks that can be freely downloaded to suit most tastes. For example, there are mods for modern GP cars, classic GP cars (eg the 1979 GP season), touring cars, street cars, radio control cars, lawnmower racing (!), prototypes, rally cars, dirt oval cars, etc. The list of tracks is just as extensive.

The range of mods makes this game amazing value.

The one criticism I have of the game is that the AI cars are keen to plough into you. But the best racing is online against friends.

As stated earlier, this is a sim racer, not an arcade racer. You really do need a wheel to play it - I can't imagine trying to drive it with the keyboard, a gamepad, or even a joystick.
