Mythological Creatures
Aren't mythological creatures generally horrifying? Why don't they make horror movies about them? It wouldn't hurt to try since they seem to be running out of ideas...I mean honestly, which would you rather see...another Michael Myers or something completely different?...Like someone conjures up a gracken or chimera...I don't know how it would be done, I'm not a writer, but I sure would like to see it...
Do you guys have any favorite mythological creatures? I've always liked the gorgons...Medusa rocks (pun intended)... Doesn't have too be from Greek mythology...Could be Nordic...Valkyries are cool too... Actually, ANY mythological creatures that you prefer...:)

No, mythological creatures aren't generally horrifying. Take a class about it - you'll learn a lot.
And there are movies with them already. Say Clash of the Titans, or Jason and the Argonaughts, both great movies. I know they're not horror movies, but it's been done already.

Remember Rune Stone and Berserker? Two movies about Nordic myhology (my fave branch) I can think of.
As for other stuff, I guess Hammer's The Gorgon is the best of the mythological monster stuff I've seen. But vampires, werewolves, etc could also be considered mythological (maybe even with roots in Classical Mythology, with Lilith and Lycurgus). In my humble opinion even slashers could be considered modern mythology. They did evolve from boys telling stories over a fire at summer camp, and slumber-partying little girls telling tales of the guy hiding in the attic. |

Thank you for your response, but as you pointed out...They are not horror movies...My question was...Why don't they make a horror movie with a mythological creature or creatures? If it is done well, they can be quite horrifying:)

See Land of the Minotaur with Peter Cushing for a Minotaur-based horror movie. It's not that bad. There's also a sword-and-sandal movie simply called Minotaur. And The Minotaur (along with Theseus) makes an appearance in Gilliam's time Bandits.
