Historical figures for this time of year

I got to thinking last night about all the weird people in history, and I figured this close to Halloween would be a good time to talk about them.

the first ones who came to mind were:
HP Lovecraft
Edgar Allen poe
Aleister Crowley
Harry Houdini
Nicola Tesla

these are just the ones I could think of off the top of my head.

Would Rasputin qualify? There was a movie called "Rasputin, the Mad Monk".

Two of my favorite grim and shocking historical figures:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sawney_Beane
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilles_de_Rais

Serial killing is considered by many to be a contemporary American phenomenon. These two guys definitely prove that one wrong.

I have never heard of Beane, but I knew about Gilles de Rais. Its apalling that he fought beside Joan of Arc. Imagine if she knew about him...

I know. That part sends chills down my spine. There's all kinds of possibilities for how that would play out.
